The July distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission, primarily representing local tax receipts from May business, show declines in three metro area cities when compared to the same month last year. Those cities include Oklahoma City, Edmond and Chickasha.

Oklahoma City’s July 2009 distribution was $26,880,276, compared to $29,761,153 in July 2008, representing a 10.7-percent drop. This is the fifth consecutive – and largest, to date – decline for Oklahoma City.

Edmond experienced a 1.3-percent decline, and Chickasha had a 2.6-percent decline.

Norman continues to see increases in year-over-year percent change, however, the sales tax rate in Norman was 3 percent in 2008, and it is 3.5 percent this year. The city received $4,469,713 in July, an increase of 16.2 percent over the same month last year.

Moore received $2,059,977 this month, a 17.4-percent increase over the same month last year. Midwest City received $2,129,971 this month, a 4-percent increase over the same month last year; and Guthrie received $340,158, a 5.1-percent increase over the same month last year.

Moore has had huge increases over the last several years. This community should be financially stable through the recession.
