Thread: All-Sports Stadium

    Default All-Sports Stadium

For those who don't have a clue, the All-Sports stadium was so named
because it was named after the All-Sports Association. It had nothing to do
with football, or basketdull. It was all about the All-Sports Association.

There are several idiots who call the former baseball field "one-sport". This
shows their complete ignorance of the stadium. As mentioned, it was all
about the All-Sports Association and not about whether or not more than one
sport or activity, aka basketdull, was played at All-Sports Stadium

At any rate, I remember the "hill" where many a fan sat. It was a very
    important part of All-Sports Stadium.

Do any of you remember the "89'er" who'd fire his shotgun when an 89'er hit
    a homerun?

I loved the hill portion of All-Sports stadium. I don't remember the Shotgun, but I do remember that the Beach Boys came here several years around July 4th and played there after the game. That was cool. Beach Boys, baseball and hot summer nights. ah the good ol days.

Even though I'm a youngster, I do remember the stadium well as well as the hill. Spent many days on the hill as a kid.

The ol' 89'er would walk to the end of the left field line and sit in a chair.

He was there the first few years of the team.

First time I "ditched" school a friend and I went to the stadium to watch the Cubs (okc was the farm-team for the Cubs then) play the White Sox. Beautiful morning. Walked from Lee school to the stadium. Had money for a ticket and one coke. Suddenly the skies became cloudy and a cold drizzle began to fall. Teams warmup...drizzle becomes heavier...after about an hour the game was called. Walk out of the stadium and it began to pour...........had to walk back to Capitol Hill in a steady downpour. Got in trouble at home and school.

Just to clear things up. It's MY CURSE that has spelled doom for the Cubbies and the World Series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of my fondest memories of All-Sports stadium was going to a Pre-Season game with my roommate sometime in the mid eighties. The Cubs were playing and my roommate was a huuuge Cubs fan as her grandmother still lived in Chicago. I remember Lorne Greene was there for some reason. Anyway after the game my roommate stood in line to meet Harry Carey. He slobbered all over her arm giving her a kiss. I am not kidding there was spit all over. I thought it was quite gross, she vowed never to wash her arm again. To each her own I guess.

Would go there for the Big 8 baseball tournament when played there. Seemed like the last day would windup being a doubleheader and it was windy and freezing. More like early march weather then may.

I'm really not sure how to respond to that. I wish I were wittier. Hopefully, you really did understand the time perioed was the mid eighties and not my roommates age. Man, it is hard to think of her in as 105 right now.
