They had to raise starting pay because so many people are going to Amazon.

Also, they didn't provide raises for people that have been there for years, which means someone off the street will make as much as someone who has been working there for quite a while. The existing employees are not happy.

%^^^^^^^^ Well kiss my grits! I refuse to pay full price for hobbylobbymadeinchinacrap.

That 40% off made some things worthwhile.

    Bye Bye

Well if they continue current business practice. Everything rotates to 50% off every other week. So if it is full price this week. Wait until the next Monday then it is 50% and you couldn’t even use the 40% coupon.

Does anyone know what Amazon is offering for starting pay per hour in OKC? I've seen like $ up to 20.80 in Austin, but it seems Amazon tweaks their pay by region...

Careful now, some Hobby Lobby employees are going to feel the need to defend their overlord.

The world's oldest complete star map, lost for millennia, was found inside a medieval manuscript Codex Climaci Rescriptus as St. Catherine's Monastery in Egypt. Most of the rest of the 146 folios of the manuscript are owned by Steve Green. It is unclear whether Hobby Lobby has any smuggled artifacts, other than the 17,000 already recovered from them, that may be useful for the manuscript investigation.

The article I read compared his plan to what the former owner of Patagonia did. Which was put the corporation in a trust that funds anti-global warming efforts. I would imagine what personal fortune he has currently will be passed on to his heirs.

I read the CEOs opinion piece on Fox News site; it reads like a monologue from The Righteous Gemstones.
Chouinard with Patagonia has spent a lifetime making the right choices for environmental concerns, climate change, and he spelled out very clearly how he plans to leave his company.
Mr. Green says he's leaving the company to God. I have no clue what that means and his Fox essay is vague as all get out.

Is this basically the same thing as the Patagonia Owner’s “gift”?

I hope some of that money will be used to help improve Oklahoma City.

What a story it would be if he just distributed it out to his employees.

Just guessing there are probably a lot of actual things you don’t realize besides this made up one.

The Green family has done wonders for this city. I don't think any decision he has made has hurt the city, economically, and I don't think they will start now.

Aside from Hobby Lobby, what wonders?

Let me say first of all that no business has the "obligation" to support their communities. I mean, they exist to make money.

But I just had a couple of spare minutes and I googled "Hobby Lobby contributions to Oklahoma City" and was directed to a page on their website where it is written that they "regret" that they can't donate to the many organizations that approach them because there are so many. Instead, they have selected five faith-based organizations to give to, none of which seem OKC-centric. (ORU in Tulsa is one of the five).

It can be argued that they have done "wonders" in that they have provided a lot of entry-level and low-skilled job opportunities in OKC and that isn't nothing. But they aren't actively contributing in a proportionate way to what others of their size are doing in the philanthropic life of the city (hospitals, schools, civic causes) that I can tell.
