So the bridge is closed, but there are no barriers to it?

The bigger question is why this wasn't handled some time ago, when the bridge was closed for the park construction.

Now, they have delayed the repairs again.

Wow, that sign is the dumbest thing I have seen this week. They should have left it fully closed as a reminder of poor planning.

Seems like a huge liability - do they expect a blind person to be able to read that sign? I don't think that would hold up in court, however I am glad to see they at least are open to "looking the other way" if it's going to be a while before they start working on it again in earnest.
Yeah, I thought that means the city is admitting that it could be dangerous, but not doing anything to physically protect from injury.

I took just enough business law classes to be dangerous, but I remember being told that posting a sign that says “We’re not responsible” doesn’t mean that they’re not responsible.

Just like being behind a dumptruck that says "Not responsible for broken windshields if following closer than 200 feet."

It is always the driver's responsibility to ensure their load is secured. The signs are just there to deter insurance claims.

So, now the bridge is fenced off and no visible work is happening.

And I think they have added a bunch of steel cables that are attached to the pylons that I don't remember seeing...

You can see they have started the repair work:

I hope the wood they're using smells as good as the old wood did. I always liked going out on the bridge and smelling that sweet aroma. lol

I think a few posts back, it was said it was going to be synthetic, no doubt due to lower maintenance cost.

So is the light grayish color the new decking? And wow how careful must they be to not drop something onto the traffic below...

Yes, they are working north to south.

Through total circumstance this ended up being a really good time to get this done, not like there's heavy park usage at the moment.

They have their work area netted for traffic protection.

    From Lackmeyer's chat today:

"Yes, the re-decking underway consists of light concrete panels that should be a lot better than the wood planks."

Wonder why they didn't use that polycarbonate stuff used with decks?

are they going to do anything about wood on the sides? just leaving it? it's fine, but looks maybe slightly tacky now that the deck is refreshed... similarly what about the benches that were wood?

Ha, they barely got the deck fixed, and it took them *how* long? The wood sides and benches ain't going nowhere...
