Thread: cotton bowl renovations

    Default cotton bowl renovations

I have looked everywhere, even hornsfans.com trying to find renderings or even better, pics of the completed upper decks and only found a few old ones from the spring. Last I heard the new capacity would be 92,000. Any word on if the stadium renovations have been completed?

Why in the world did the Cotton Bowl choose to pour in several million dollars to its stadium when it is going to lose the New Year's Day bowl game to JerryWorld next year? Is the OU/TX game (only contracted through 2015, right?) really that big of a stream of revenue for them to justify that kind of overhaul? Also, did the Dallas taxpayers pay for it, or was it the State Fair of Texas (or neither)?

Regardless, I'm overjoyed. Looks great in the pictures. That thing was falling apart, and I can't wait to see it in its new form. Should be much louder with each school bringing 45k a piece rather than 35k in the past. The OU/TX game needs to be at that place forever, right in the middle of the fair. I can't imagine playing that thing with NFL-style tailgates instead of corny dogs, 8 ticket per beer in small paper cups, and Big Tex.

From what I've read the OU/Texas game generates around $36,000,000 every year for Dallas. The taxpayers approved the stadium renovations in a vote. So it shouldn't take long to get their $57,000,000 back. When you think of the hundreds of millions of dollars fans from both schools have pumped into the Dallas economy over the last (almost) hundred years, they should provide the teams and fans with a better venue....these renovations should have been done years ago. And yes the stadium looks great.

They are trying to get more games to be played there during the fair as well. I know they've (state fair officals) discussed it with OSU and Texas Tech, and I think they've asked an SEC team as well.

Officials said the Cotton Bowl could host at least six additional college football games other than OU-Texas during the October state fair — three Saturdays and three Thursday nights — which could help pay for the renovations.
It's kinda like waiting for Christmas in my family. I can't imagine the OU/Texas game ever being played somewhere else, and people who want it moved to Jerryworld must have never gone to a game there during the fair. I think everyone who enjoys sports should see that game once in their lifetime.

That said, I'll miss the old stadium and its blue and white fingering decapitating fold chairs. Kinda like losing Yankee stadium, and the old 89ers park at the fair. Alot of great memories.

Have a great time if you go.
