Thread: Famous Kiltie Band

  1. Default Famous Kiltie Band

This is an update to a thread which hasn't been moved here yet, though an administrator may well now do so: http://www.okctalk.com/okc-metro-are...ltie-band.html

It's been kinda heavy doing the Jim Crow blog article and it was something of a tonic to receive an e-mail yesterday from a guy in Shamrock, Texas. He sent me 11 high-resolution scans of the Oklahoma City Famous Kiltie Band appearing at that city's inaugural St. Patrick's Day Celebration way back in 1938, 71 years ago. I have accordingly updated the blog article, Doug Dawgz Blog: Oklahoma City's Famous Kiltie Band, to include those images and have bumped the article to the top of the list.

Here are a few smaller versions of the photos which were sent to me:

Pretty girls always lighten the load.

I decided that the Shamrock photos should have their own space, so I've now put the original back the way it was (other than for a link to the new pics) and made a separate Kiltie article here: Doug Dawgz Blog: Famous Kilties In Shamrock

I suspect in the day they're were lots of young men who were mad for plaid.

    Probably, there still are.

My Shamrock benefactor sent a few more pics today, now in the article.

Here's one on Main Street ...

Shamrock knew how to throw a party.

that is great you have shown this, I have never heard of the kilties, just wonder if they had reunions and the such. It is a shame it did not carry on through later generations it would be great to see today. The planes taxing down the street that would never happen these days.

Just so there is no mistake, the pics shown here are from a visit to the Kilties to Shamrock, Texas, in 1938, including the airplane photos.

As for the Kilties, generally, they were an Okc institution for quite a number of years. The main article about the Kilties is here: Doug Dawgz Blog: Oklahoma City's Famous Kiltie Band

It's just too bad that there are not groups and organizations like this anymore for people to take advantage of. The IOOF on Capitol Hill had a drum and bugle corp along with a color guard. We performed at the Grand Opening of the Cowboy Hall of Fame and for two days after that.
