  2. Re: What did the inner NE side look like before Urban Renewal/I235 destroyed it?

I don't recognize the Mediterranean style house, in the 4th photo. Is that one still standing?
  3. Re: What did the inner NE side look like before Urban Renewal/I235 destroyed it?

Here are some pictures I found of the area that are now gone, and remind me of Heritage Hills and Mesta Part. What a shame

These don't have a specified address, help me identify them if you can...
  4. What did the inner NE side look like before Urban Renewal/I235 destroyed it?

Basically the entire area east of Santa Fe, South of NE 13th street, and North of 1st street was completely obliterated during Urban Renewal. From what I have read, and from some historic photos,...

    Re: OKC in 1954

Thanks! Glad I shared, I knew someone would be interested
I too lived in a house that had numerous additions over the years. It's interesting to see what it looked like originally, it was MUCH...

    OKC in 1954

Don't know if anyone here already knows, but you can find aerials of just about the entirety of OKC as far back as 1954. Also 1964 in some parts. pretty fascinating to see the changes...
  7. Re: Houses on north side of 10th st between Classen and Penn?

It was like a continuation of the urban renewal policies from the decades before. Just tear everything down, even if there are no plans to build anything.
  8. Re: Houses on north side of 10th st between Classen and Penn?

Plus, it's Classen-Ten-Penn, one of my favorite neighborhoods. But I guess back in the 90's it was just considered a slum.
  9. Re: Houses on north side of 10th st between Classen and Penn?

So they were mostly 2 or 3 story craftsmans? man, what a pity. I loved those houses when I was younger

I think that demolition could have easily been avoided. I know that they widened 10th street,...
  10. Houses on north side of 10th st between Classen and Penn?

Does anybody have some pictures of this street before the houses were torn down? I barely remember them as I was young at the time but they seemed interesting. Sure I can find some aerial views but I...

    Re: First Christian Church

Any word on what's going to happen to this Church? Think it will get torn down for some big-box style development
  12. Re: What's the history of North Highland/Estes Park and College Park?

Well, I think the neighborhood is in a prime location, being between Nichols hills and Edmond, and conveniently located near Broadway extension. I'm surprised the property values are so low and it...

Re: McDonalds with pirate ship inside?

    Wish I remembered this. Sounds more like a Chuck-E-Cheese than a McDonald's
  14. Re: What's the history of North Highland/Estes Park and College Park?

Interesting, never knew about the miniature golf course. I wonder what happened to cause the neighborhood to go downhill?
  15. What's the history of North Highland/Estes Park and College Park?

What is the story behind these patchy looking postwar neighborhoods? the ones bound by Wilshire, Western, 122nd and Broadway Extension. Were they built as public housing for the poor, or were they...
  16. Re: What happened at 1401 NW 16th/ 16th and Douglas?!?!

How did you even find the records of demolition permits?
  17. Re: What happened at 1401 NW 16th/ 16th and Douglas?!?!

Hmmm, the same guy owns the Victorian house near by? I guess that one's next. Oh well. New construction is good for the economy at least.
  18. Re: What happened at 1401 NW 16th/ 16th and Douglas?!?!

I'm just baffled because there are other vacant lots nearby/lesser homes to be demolished if they wanted a lot to build on. Plus, alot of work had just been put into the house.

    Re: Wilshire Point

Is anyone else concerned about crime spilling in from the infamous North Highland Park neighborhood directly northeast of it? The location seems pretty iffy to me. Burglar bars and boarded up windows...
  20. What happened at 1401 NW 16th/ 16th and Douglas?!?!

The 3 story house on the NW corner of 16th and Douglas, What happened to it??? A while back it was being restored, now it was demolished. Why? was it destroyed in an accidental fire or something?...
  21. Re: Is it legal to convert a garage into an apartment in OKC?

Ok. so if I had a duplex, which is already zoned for multifamily, converting the garage for that should be simpler, right?
  22. Is it legal to convert a garage into an apartment in OKC?

I was thinking about buying a small house with an attached garage, and converting the garage into an apartment for extra income. I've heard in some areas that is illegal, and the penalty for doing so...

Re: New development at NW 23rd & MacArthur

Is something going in Western Sizzlin's place? Or was it torn just to sell the vacant lot?

Is 1976 the year that building was built? It looked even older than that.
