  • Wheeler District to add commercial building

The first for-lease building is coming to the burgeoning Wheeler District.

The first residents of the planned community have moved into their homes and soon a mixed-use building will rise near the center of the development, located on S. Western Avenue on the southern shore of the Oklahoma River.

The design by Alford Hall Monaghan Morris includes 9,000 square feet of restaurant and/or retail space on the ground floor and two levels of office above.

The new structure will be constructed directly south of the original terminal building of the old Downtown Airpark, which is being renovated into a cafe and mail center.

Also immediately adjacent will be the Big Friendly Brewery which has recently started construction.

The new building will feature a barrel-shaped roof that “echoes the historic airport vernacular” according to the architects.
