  • New live music venue and brewery planned for west downtown

Riding the wave of a substantial enhancement of the local music scene over just the last two years, a new venue seeks to fill an unmet need.

Stephen Tyler and Chad Whitehead, operating partners of the Tower Theatre and Ponyboy, plan to open a new 500-person capacity live music space to compliment their other two venues.

Tyler explained that due to recently-developed booking relationships, they often have the need to accommodate artists that draw crowds of different sizes. The Tower is best suited for the larger audiences and Ponyboy is now booking acts in a more intimate setting in their second-level space.

The new spot will slot between the two and be part of a large redevelopment project that will also include a brewery and taproom and restaurant and retail space.

The venue will be called Beer City Music Hall; a reference to an Oklahoma panhandle ghost town.

The larger project is a collection of buildings at NW 2nd and Klein Avenue, to the west of Classen and just to the west of booming Film Row.

The redevelopment will be by the Pivot Project which is also behind the Oklahoma Distillery that is now under construction, and the Sunshine Laundry renovation. All three are west of Classen in what is now a new urban frontier with investors starting to snatch up many of the character-rich properties.

As part of the larger development, Fair-Weather Friend will be opening a new brewery and taproom. Husband and wife Adrienne and Reed Jaskula will be fulfilling a decade-long dream after each working for highly-regarded local breweries.

Adrienne has been the VP of Sales for nearby Stonecloud and Reed the Head Brewer for Prairie OKC in Automobile Alley.

Fair-Weather Friend plans to focus on highly crafted beers such as sours and IPA's. The brewery will operate on a 7-barrel system and the enclosed taproom will feature modern décor and accommodate 80 to 90 guests. The taproom will open to an exterior patio and a large common area which will be family and dog-friendly with toys, games and activities.

The Jaskula's also plan to offer food but beer will be their main focus and will only distribute their beers through this new facility.

The entire project should be completed next year.
