  • Conceptual plan revealed to fully renovate historic Union Station

Yesterday, Architects GSB presented a conceptual plan to the MAPS 3 Park Subcommittee for renovating Union Station which sits at the southern end of the soon to open Scissortail Park.

Previously, the MAPS 3 Oversight Board has allocated $10 million to the project from excess MAPS budget due to higher than anticipated sales tax collections.

The report proposed a welcome center and gift shop for the park, event halls, as well as a classroom, multipurpose hall and a commercial kitchen.

Union Station was not part of the original budget for Scissortail Park and thus will be starting and finishing later than the larger project, which is scheduled for later this year.

Once an operating train station for the Frisco and Rock Island lines, the building opened in 1931 but has been largely empty for decades, all though the Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority is housed there.
