  • 3 new restaurants and bars plus retail slated for Farmers Market area

The popular vegan food truck the Loaded Bowl has filed plans to open a permanent location on SW 2nd Street, directly north of the Farmer's Market and will soon be joined by four other new business set to open very soon in the immediate area, with more in the planning stages.

Del Mar Gardens food truck park and The Silo retail store and maker's space are also under construction and Vintage Reclaimed Lumber opened their new showroom in the area last week.

The venerable Farmer's Market building itself recently received a complete refreshing of its exterior as well as major improvements inside.

Power House bar and restaurant celebrated its one year anniversary in February and has found such a following for its unique setting, delicious food and friendly atmosphere that it will soon be expanding the kitchen and adding more outdoor seating.

Power House proprietor Clay Berkes will also be running the bar at Del Mar Gardens across the street, where food trucks will circle a central covered pavilion. The new bar and food truck park will open April 29th.

Jon and Tevin Grupe started the Loaded Bowl food truck in 2013 and its popularity was the motivation to put down permanent roots. Work is just starting on the 2,770 square foot restaurant at 1211 SW 2nd Street.

The Grupes plan to have a bar area with local beers and signature cocktails and a large glass overhead door that will open to sidewalk seating and will expand their unique offering of approachable and affordable vegan food.

The Silo is taking 3,000 square feet in the OL Brooks building immediately east of the Loaded Bowl space and describes themselves as “A new screen printing, wood working, and photography makers space and retail experience “. Three different artists will share the work space and also combine forces to sell their wares in a common retail store front.

OL Brooks is being renovated by the Pivot Project (David Wanzer, Ben Sellers and Jonathan Dodson) and the remaining 3,000 square feet directly east of The Silo has been leased to a bar which will also serve light food. More information will be released soon.

Vintage Reclaimed Lumber just opened in the old Brown Machinery property at 1125 and 1117 Exchange Avenue and had relocated their showroom from NW 12th & Western. Their workshop will stay on Western but their new location has a large storage yard for reclaimed lumber as well as a brand new showroom for the custom furniture products.

The new business join Urban Agrarian, a nursery and Bikrim Yoga as the district rapidly evolves.
