  • A closer look at the Sunshine Cleaners renovation

A building permit application was recently filed to fully renovate the historic former home to Sunshine Cleaners at the corner of NW 1st and Classen Boulevard.

Ben Sellers, Jonathan Dodson and David Wanzer purchased the long-vacant structure late last year and announced plans to transform it into a brewery and restaurant.

The filed plans show the brewery taking most of the first level with a taproom, restaurant and bar also included. The second level will consist of office space and storage.

Built in 1929, parts of the structure has been lacking a roof for decades, and trees are currently growing up through the floor.

Renovation plans call for cleaning and re-pointing the old brick facade, repairing and reglazing the many steel casement windows and installing an aluminum and glass overhead door on the northwest corner.

The iconic neon sign will also be repaired and restored.

Work will begin just as the nearby 21c Museum Hotel wraps up another major renovation in the area.

Design is by Gardner Architects and Lingo will handle the construction services.
