Parks Department Seeks Citizen Input on Recreation Programs
Public Meeting Set for February 13
The Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department invites citizens to provide their input regarding the future direction of indoor recreation facilities and at a public meeting to be held on Tuesday, February 13. The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Will Rogers Senior Center, located at 3501 Pat Murphy Drive (1 block south of NW 36th between Grand Boulevard and Portland Ave.)
Parks executive leadership will be on hand to field questions and gather citizen recommendations regarding future recreation programming. The public meeting is part of an overall recreation strategic plan being conducted in cooperation with an outside consulting firm.
“Public input is very important in helping us create a vision for the future,” said Parks Director Wendel Whisenhunt. “We understand our citizens make a great investment in our community, and we want to ensure that the types of facilities and programming we provide meet their growing needs.”
Currently, the OKC Parks and Recreation Department operates 21 community centers and specialty sites throughout the City, including two dedicated senior centers. It also manages and staffs two municipal gymnasiums as part of its Recreation Division.
The focus of this particular meeting is to gauge the public’s opinion on indoor recreational programming.
“Providing our citizens with healthy and meaningful recreation and cultural opportunities is one of our top priorities,” said Whisenhunt. “Getting citizen feedback is critical in helping us design future programming that will continue to have a positive impact in their lives.”
