Citizens make street resurfacing top priority in bond issue survey
Street resurfacing projects were the top priority item among citizens polled by the City in a scientific survey in December 2006. The survey was conducted to measure citizen priorities for a future bond issue.
Street resurfacing was the top priority for one-third of those responding, and was in the top three for 55 percent of the respondents.
Survey results indicate the top six improvements residents would like to see funded include:

Police car replacementEighty-nine percent of those polled said they would vote for the bond issue if it meant no increase in property taxes. The City schedules bond issue elections so that new bond issue programs begin as old ones expire, keeping the property tax rate the same.
The survey was conducted by ETC Institute of Olathe, Kansas, which conducted a survey of citizen attitudes about City government in 2005.
In that survey, 77 percent of the citizens responding said street maintenance should be the top priority for City government in 2006 and 2007.
