So why did American Idol go to San Antonio and not Dallas or Huston? We aren’t that much smaller than San Antonio, are we? Will OKC ever get a chance to have millions upon millions of people watching us throughout the world? I don’t care what, I just want OKC to hit it big, on TV.

I think they might have already been to those locations?

I'd like them to come to OKC, as well, but we're not the ones making the decisions.

San Antonio is quite a bit larger, and growing.

They have gone to Dallas, Austin, and Houston already, some more than once. They shake things up a bit every year in an attempt to find new talent. Ever since they've had several big stars come out of Alabama, they have been doing auditions in Birmingham, which is certainly a smaller metro than us.

I hear that there are quite few Oklahomans to make it to Hollywood this year, so if 1 or more of them does really well or especially if an Oklahoman wins for a second year, they will surely give OKC a tryout.

And you can't take into account any kind of "official census" in a city like San Antonio. You could probably bump that number up another half million people at least!

The Birmingham MSA is actually almost identical in population to Oklahoma City’s MSA. The 2005 Estimate for Oklahoma City is 1,156,812 and for Birmingham is 1,090,126.

Doesn't change my point.

LOL! Sad, but true! If illegal immigration is an issue anywhere, it's most likely an issue in San Antonio. Those people are counted.

I gotta agree with you jbrown, it's about where they think they'll find talent. If they can find talent in a smaller metro they'll go there. The reason they start out by hitting the big metros is because they can see more people there and get more bang for their buck so to speak.

I don't know that I want them coming to OKC though because the regional shows is usually when you see the weird characters come out and I don't think OKC needs any publicity like that.

They have been to Oklahoma City. It has been a while though, I want to say around 2002 maybe? All I remember is they had auditions at Quail Springs Mall. One of the guys I worked with at that time auditioned. He made it through a couple of rounds. However, I don't think they showed our city on the actual show.

Um, I'm not positive, but I don't think they've ever held auditions that they didn't tape. Maybe for the first season, but I doubt it because it wasn't a phenomenon yet.

It could have been one of the other recent talent shows, like Star Search or Nashville Star.

No, it was definitely American Idol. The contestants name that I knew was Jacob Smalley. It was season two of the show...whatever year that was. I know they tape everything, but they cut alot of it out when they air it.

Ha. I was in high school choir with that guy. I remember him getting on the show, but I was pretty sure he was in Dallas to audition. It's possible they held untaped preliminary auditions here before sending him there to go before cameras and Simon, Randy, and Paula.

ahhh...maybe that's it. Maybe it was the preliminary rounds and they don't air those unless there is something really spectacular or horrible! Although I have to say, I was present for that audition at Quail Springs and I heard some sounds that I've never heard before, and that's the nicest way I'm going to put it! I myself didn't audition, but it was fun to watch those that did.
