I can't believe no one has posted this yet. The JR covered this last Thursday, didn't see anything at all in the Oklahoman. On Main Street downtown in front of the Main Street parking garage (just east of Taylor's News Stand) there are 6 new lifesize scuptures of different animals and objects. Another great addition to the arts scene downtown! Check it out for yourself.

I guess. I was just posting the facts and to let everyone know of the new art, not trying to be "right"

Unfortunately, most of us don't have memberships to read the Journal Record. Anyways, it's nice to have an addition of any artwork downtown.

I think I am one of the very few that posts articles from the JR and I was actually in OKC on Thursday and away from a computer. :)

Thanks for the info. Since we don't yet have pictures, can you tell us if they're modern or traditional, i.e. can you actually tell what kind of animal the sculpture is supposed to represent? :)

My understanding is that I'm supposed to be telling you that you're right...so there you have it. :053:

One is a giant boot, a giant guitar, and I forget what the animals were. The JR had pics if someone has online access please post, otherwise I'll take pics when I get time.

My favourite is the penguin, but that's Tulsa's deal.

Thanks for the pics, Keith. These city art projects are cool; they characterize a place. I wish they would've been in a more high-profile place, like the City Hall lawn or in front of the Bricktown Ballpark.

I don't want to see them in Bricktown, Bricktown has a good deal of public art. The CBD doesn't have that much and could use more. The arts district would be an awesome place for them. Floater keep in mind they were purchased by the owner of the Main Street Garage and cost him around 5k a piece plus delivery/install fees thus I'm sure he wouldn't want to put them in other parts of downtown other than in front of his property. IMO it's a great example of property owners stepping up to the plate and not looking to the city to do it for them.

I noticed these the other night coming out of Soleil. Eye catching for sure. Art? A very interesting selection of subjects. I wonder if there is a theme intended that is unapparent? Lots of C&W but then there's a penguin thrown into the mix. At least Pop Art, but way better than a solid block of parking garage entrances and vanilla store front. I like um. They seem to be permnantly installed, but wassup with the cables around the concrete columns? I haven't read the plaques yet either, and I'm sure that would clear up some things.

Yuck. Not a fan of the Spirit of the Buffalo statues and not a fan of these. I thought we were talking real statues. Bronze statues. This stuff looks so tacky to me. OKC can do better.

They're all from other cities 'art around town' projects.
