Crews about to start making repairs.

This is a huge storm sewer that was broken while the crew was digging down to the water main. The standing water you see is actually a mix of water and sewer. While digging, the crew hit a sewer main that was sitting over the water main. The hoses you see are pumping the sewer water out of the hole and into the storm drain.

This is the broken 30" main. As you can see, there is a big chunk out of it. This happened last week and they are still in process of repairing it. They rerouted the water, so everybody in this area has water.

This is a huge hole. As you can see, they had to use two very long ladders to get down to the main. The ladder that you see standing is right in the middle of the broken storm drain. Because of the size of the storm drain, the City is having to hire a contractor to make the repair.

This happened in the 2300 blk of NW.36th St. The weather has been so dry and hot.....and then we had a heavy, drenching rain. Because of the rain, the ground starts shifting and mains start breaking. The day after the rain, we had over 15 water main breaks reported.

That was a mess, this is the 1st time I've seen a large water line break. We stopped by right after it happened when we heard the radio traffic. They said the hole was 20ft deep? Went back through on Monday and everything was just about wrapped up. OKC is very lucky to have all the good people working for utility services.

Now what about that 72" main that ruptured late this afternoon in far south OKC?? Someone quoted that it was one of the biggest water arteries in the city - absolutely astonishing "leak" (which seems an entirely inappropriate term).
