Lao celebration set

Students of Laotian heritage will perform traditional dances during a celebration to honor graduating high school and college seniors.
The event, sponsored by the Lao-American Association of Oklahoma, begins at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lao Buddharam of Oklahoma Community Center, 7620 N Kelley.

Tickets, available at the door, are $10 for adults; free for children younger than 18 years of age.

Oklahoma City had 17 Laotian families in 1979, when the Lao-American Association of Oklahoma was organized to assist newly arrived Laotian refugees.

Today, the association estimates there are about 700 Laotians in Oklahoma, including 200 younger than 25.

did anyone attend this!?

I hope so, we need to celebrate Oklahoma City's diversity and heritage. This will cut down on the prejudices that many tend to have. Most of the time, once you get to know someone you tend to appreciate them, their history/heritage, their food, and customs.

In any rate, it is fascinating to have "cosmopolitan" offerings available in OKC. Get out and enjoy, people!!!!
