Those look like some fun things to do. Let us know if you join. I am pretty shy at things like that but do have a few girl friends who would probably go along with it.

I thinks it around $30.00 a month. February looked a lot busier than March does. Maybe things get added closer to those days. I'm gonna watch it for a while and then decide.

I ran across that site about a week ago and sent an email to the owners asking if they would be interested on offering s special deal to OKCTalk members. As of today they did not even bother responding. I have a growing list of companies based in OKC that don't even bother in returning emails.

Todd, did you get a feel of how many OKC-area-resident members there are in the group?

$30.00 is a tad of $$$$$$.

No, I am not interested in joining it.

Todd

?

I have no clue. I just ran across the site and thought I would see if they would give members a break. I didn't join and don't plan to since I am happily married..LOL

Thirty bucks is a little steep, espesially with a minimal six month obligation. If they have a respectable number of members, what could be their operating costs?

Leon
02-28-2006, 05:43 AM
Todd, maybe you could let them know they're being publicly discussed here.

Hmmm...it says the March 4 event at Crabtown is free and open to people to check it out. Anyone thinking of going?

I noticed that March 4th freebie too, sounds like a great time to go check them out. Put me on your list of people SweetDaisy. (I'm a list maker too haha)

Is that $30. a month w/ a six month obligation Leon? I gave it a quick once over last night but I was getting blurry eyed cause it was approching 2:00 am so I don't remember that detail.

Hmmm...it says the March 4 event at Crabtown is free and open to people to check it out. Anyone thinking of going?

That's this weekend, my son's weekend, so no. I think there is a second freebie two weeks later. I'll skip that one too.

I think the effort is fairly new which could mean it has few members. I'd think that if they have a lot of members their website would point that out.

If you two go, take notes for the rest of us.

I just noticed there is a message board and a photo link there too. They both make the place look new too. We have more members and posts in our own Singles Lounge and there were zero pictures.

There sure is a huge difference between the busy Feb calendar and March's. Hmmm.

I emailed them to ask about the number of members, men and women.

If it's a new thing, it could be wise to get in early and take some sort of leadership role. I'm sure they'll need help if it grows.

I'm going back to ask where the Feb event photos are.

Hannah

I did hear it advertised on the radio this morning, not sure if I just noticed because I had read this thread. It said OKC only organized singles club.

Leon

OK, I was out for a while tonight, just got back. OKC Adventure answered both my emailed questions. I would copy and paste them here but I'm not sure about doing so w/o their approval. So I'll paraphrase. If you'd like the entire answers, email me and I'll forward them to you.

They are a new organization here in OKC. The February events are "samples" of events that they "will begin" hosting in March. I gathered that the Feb events didn't actually happen but the March and later events will. Right now they have 25 members. They expect 100 more after there first meeting and they expect 250 to attend that. They are modeled after a Phoenix organization which has a membership base of 1500. This type of club typically has a 60/40 ratio women to men.

I intend to sign up. I'm not sure but I don't think that's any more money than Yahoo Personals or Match.com.

OK, with permisssion I post the following threes emails I recieved from OKC Adventures:

Leon,
Lots of great questions. The events in Feburary are sample events to show you some of the activities that we offer. You are correct March 4th at Crabtown will be our first event. It starts at 6pm and they place will be full, as it only holds 250 people. This event will be free to all singles, and will be a good way for people to check us out and see our members and what kinds of people and activities we have. We are based on ideas from a singles activites club in Pheonix, Az which has over 1,500 members. One of the main ideas is Advertizing. The key to any organization is getting the word out and getting new members. We plan between 15-20 events each month with a wide range of activities. Memberships are $29.95 per month paid each month, so there is not large upfront cost. We currently have 25 members but are growing each day we have new members join us knowing that after this Satuday we excpect to have over 100 members. There have been numerous people that have commented to join at our opening event this week. We will also have one more open event that will be March 18th at the Nation Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. This event starts at 6pm and there is no cost. We will have free food and drinks, and also have plenty of entertainment. We will have roulette, craps, and poker tables, and we will be passing out Monopoly money as you enter to gable with. At the end of the evening we will host an auction where you can use your winnings to bid on prizes. We will also have music and dancing, or you can take a private tour of the museum.
I hope this answers most of your questions. If you have any more questions, free free to ask or call us at 487-6522. Also you can call back next week and ask the same questions and I will give you a much better feel for what you are wanting to know.
Thanks,
Brian Shafer

Leon,
I did not answer your last two questions.
The ratio of all clubs of this type including our members and calls is 60% women and 40% males. Members range in age of 21-65 with a majority of people being between 35-55.

Our History
Five years ago realizing there must be a better way to be single, choices seemed limited to blind dates, the bar scene & personal ads. OKC Adventures based on the concept started by other singles club with over 1,500 members based out of Phoenix Arizona and other singles clubs around the country. For less than $30 per month members can enjoy 15-20 exciting events each month and meet hundreds of other singles. There is no pressure from the time you ask about joining OKC Adventures to the time you are a member enjoying our activities.

Brian,
Thank you for the responses, they were very timely. And they were the
answers I'd hoped to hear. I passed most of this info to a small local
group of singles. I would have cut and pasted your responses to
their message board but thought I should get permission first. Anyway, I
informed them that I would be joining, hopefully they will too. Oklahoma
City needs something like this! I wish you all the luck.
Welcome your new organization to OKC. Need any volunteer help?

Leon, thanks so much for getting this information together. I know I appreciate it! I'm going to go on Saturday nite, so I'll try to give some feedback on this group.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it turns out to be pretty cool...I'm willing to pay $30/month to have some fun events to go to on occasion!

Well for me 30 bucks a month is too much to hang out at events with other people. I would rather find something myself to do that doesn't cost 30 bucks a month, and like me mabye go once a month if I get time or get the nerve to go.

Leon

Thirty bucks a month IS a little steep. But I'll give them a chance. Thirty bucks is about one night out for a single person. If I can trade one night out so the other nights out put me in the midst of more others that are single, I'll trade it.

Face it, I could go to Graham's or Groovies, or Toby Keith's but 90% of the people in there will have dates already. Half the remainder are female, IF I'm lucky. And half those are on their kitchen passes with their friends and just wanna hang with their friends and blow some steam. It's very hard to spot the single dateless female in a crowd. (You ladies are SO elusive, whether you're trying to be or not.)

Consider a place where everyone is single and without a date, and everyone would like a date. One night out is worth that.

I do tend to doubt the 60/40, women/men ratio though. I'll look into it, but I'll bet it's more like 75/25, men/women.....I still believe that men search harder for love (put more effort into it) than women do....even though I, myself, am learning to relish singledom. (Judging from past experience, I would've missed the concert tonight to make someone else happy. I can't fall into that trap again.)

Would one of you ladies consider asking OKC Adventures their expected ratio, with a female name, we might get a different answer. They thought my name was Leon.

Kellekokid and I went last nite. They had the event at Crabtown in the upstairs banquet room. Cash bar and free appetizers and a DJ. Ran from 6pm to 10pm.

We got there around 8pm and it looked as though people were beginning to thin out a bit. Apparently, there were more folks near the beginning. However, I did have a good time. Kellekokid and I sat and chatted and caught up on stuff and watched folks get up and dance, etc. It was a diverse mix of people and (unfortunately for me!) the ratio of women to men was about 65/35.

In 2 weeks, they will have a casino nite at Cowboy Hall of Fame; gambling with monopoly money and free tours through the museum. Again, I plan on going. It should be a really good opportunity to get some additional "face time" with folks as opposed to trying to talk over the DJ music like last nite.

Thanks, Daisy.
Now those odds don't seem too bad. :)
I hope they get some more stuff scheduled instead of being 180 degrees outta sync with mine.
