For those of you so say there is nothing to do in this town or not enough cultural diversity. This is another event proving those statements wrong again. Earlier this week we had a MLK parade in downtown OKC honoring the late Dr. MLK Jr.

From Jan. 23rd to Jan. 27th, you can celebrate the local Hispanic scene at the Mariachi Festival.

McDonald’s and Lopez Foods Announce Mariachi Festival

A week-long festival celebrating Hispanic culture and the genre of Mariachi music is on its way to downtown Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City Mariachi Festival will showcase Mexican music, dance, art and food for one glorious week in January.

The inaugural event, presented by McDonald’s and Lopez Foods, was created to introduce the genre of Mariachi music to the Oklahoma City Metro Area. The Latino Community Development Agency and the Junior League of Oklahoma City initiated the event to showcase local talent.

Oklahoma City’s cultural organizations have demonstrated very strong support of this event and have created new cultural awareness programs that will tie into this celebration.

The festival involves musical workshops for children, experienced musicians, and educators at the Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library, Mariachi performances with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic at the Civic Center Friday and Saturday night and a Mexican Master’s Exhibit at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. The festival culminates with a Sunday afternoon performance by world renowned group Mariachi Cobre along with local talent Mariachi Orgullo de America, Edgar Cruz and Norahua at the Civic Center.

Tickets for the Sunday performance are $20 for general admission and $10 for children under 12. For more information about tickets for all three concerts, call (405) TICKETS
