Anyone have any updates with the latest from the Dell campus

Another day, another call center. :)

no i mean like the status of the 2nd builiding and any future plans coming into fruition or how if any is Dell becoming involved with riverfront development, etc.

They continue to hire front line people through outside agencies...what do you expect?

Haven't really heard much good new from front line people. Very aggressive sales goals and a pretty decent turn over. What do you expect? A call center is a call center. The only thing that seperates them is usually pay.

Either way...its nice to see Dell here, as big name call centers are always a plus. However, after a few years the flashiness wears off. Look at AOL. Before they bought Time Warner, they were a very lucrative company to work for with great pay and benefits. Today, they have high turn over and you don't see them helping the community much anymore. They peaked around 1300 employees locally, donated millions to help tornado victims, and you actually saw Steve Case in town every now and then.

Again...at first the glitz and glam is nice, but they slowly turn into just another call center.

yeah its just sad to see such a "wonderful" blown up event such as dell coming into town and then you hear of all their hardcore selling quotas driving friends and family out of the door.. i understand its business but also its kinda ****ty in my opinion..

Actually I worked there after their peak and when I was there it was at 2300. I think they peaked at closer to 3000

I was there from 1999 to 2001...and don't remember them every being that big. However, it may be bigger...i don't remember them every reporting enough seats to have 3000 people though. They are down to like 400-500 now.

Yes, I know they have since reduced their staff significantly, although they did not have 3000 seats, remember they also had a 24 hr operations meaning different shifts, not all 3000 were working simultaneously.

I wasn't clear...re-reading my post, it would make my grade school english teacher growl. LOL

Understand how call center staffing works, I've ran two so far over the last 4 years, they never had enough seats in that building to allow for 3000 employees on rotating shifts. However, I do remember them using some of the training rooms for additional seating...so that may have helped out.

Dell has not cut any jobs. If they did, it would have been on the news, and they would not be building their 2nd building right now. That is an unfounded rumor. While I wish that a call center would not have been given such a prime spot, let's not make it sound worse than it actually is.

I think they are talking about AOL? I hope so anyway...
