This is such a tragec story, especially with it being so close to the holidays. You don't expect this kind of weather in November, however, tornadoes can strike anywhere, and anytime of the year. With 22 killed and over 200 injured, many of the dead were living in mobile homes. This was the deadliest tornado in Indiana since April 3, 1974, when 47 people were killed and 2,069 homes were destroyed. This tornado came at around 2 AM., when many people were sleeping. With winds at 158 MPH, it was considered an F3.

My brother lives in Evansville, IN and works at Deaconess Hospital where the injured are being taken. He said there was absolutely NO warning...the only reason he knew there was any storm at all was b/c the electricity kept going on and off. It made some of his electronic items beep which happened to awaken him. He said the destruction is just AWFUL there.

Then he giggled about the fact that he can't seem to escape the tornados...he was living in OKC during the May 1999 destruction (Is that when it was?). Perhaps they are following him. ;)

The Red Cross already has a help line up if anyone has family members they haven't heard from :(
I grew up in that part of the country and I can remember how terrifying tornado season was (usually in April/May/June). I don't recall any this late in the year.
