I kept running over the cap and they where charging a pretty heavy fee for going over and I ended up changing my plan to whatever their highest (maybe unlimited) cap is.

That's good news. It is very easy to exceed 1TB of you have a few security cameras that record to the cloud and watch 4k streaming content.
