Oklahoma State Announces BPS Fan Experience Enhancements:

STILLWATER - Oklahoma State athletics has embarked on a multi-year initiative to enhance the fan experience at Boone Pickens Stadium, which includes over $1.5 million in concessions enhancements that Cowboy fans will enjoy this fall.

OSU has partnered with Sodexo to create a food court in the plaza level of the West endzone that will feature multiple local, regional and national restaurant partners.

This year's restaurant partners include Aspen Coffee, Chick-Fil-A, Coney Island, Curty Shack, Down Home D's BBQ, Firehouse Subs, Freddie's Frozen Custard, Pie Five, Pizza Hut, Slim Chickens, Thai Loco and Zaxby's.

Every concessions stand in BPS will feature additional points of sale. In all, OSU fans can look forward to 300 total concession points of sale, all with the ability to accept credit cards and Apple Pay.

The venue, which has undergone a two-year seat-widening process, is also being outfitted with "cool zones" with fans, misters and free water stations.

"The fan experience is important to us," said OSU Director of Athletics Mike Holder. "We have spent a lot of time evaluating our work in this area and we will continue to do so."

Also starting this fall, POSSE parking lots around Boone Pickens Stadium will open on gamedays at 8 a.m. regardless of kickoff time to allow fans additional time for tailgating activities.

The Cowboys have also partnered with Tailgate Guys, a provider of custom gameday experiences that includes bellhops, catering, high peak tents, tables with linens, chairs, media TV packages and more. Visit okstate.com/tailgateguys for more information.

These upgrades are in addition to the new $5 million video board currently being installed in BPS. The 1080HD resolution board measures roughly 56 feet tall and 110 feet wide, and will be the eighth largest at a college football-only stadium nationwide.

The Cowboy football season kicks off on Aug. 30 against Missouri State, and season tickets are on sale now. Call 877-ALL-4-OSU or visit okstate.com/tickets for more information.

Agreed. No one needs a Petite or Grand Mal from going to a Football Game. Some signs, and defiantly LEP Vehicles, are rough to go by at night.

So I just learned two new things.

1. There is a new rule allowing college athletes that play in no more than 4 games in a season to claim a redshirt (if one is still available), and then play the following season at whichever school they transfer to.

2. Oklahoma State's Jalen McCleskey will be doing this effective immediately.

Kind of crazy that a player as prolific as he has been felt he wasn't getting targeted enough so much so that he desired to transfer.

Pete

Yes to the redshirt rule but you still have to sit out a year unless you are a grad student -- that part hasn't changed.

Yes to the redshirt rule but you still have to sit out a year unless you are a grad student -- that part hasn't changed.

One article I read said it would not matter if Jalen graduated or not. Something is different this year, but I'm certainly no expert.

http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/24783791/oklahoma-state-cowboys-jalen-mccleskey-redshirt-transfer

A new rule allows players to play in four games without burning a redshirt season, allowing McCleskey to be eligible to play in 2019 without being required to graduate.

I believe this season will be viewed as his "sit out" season.

gopokes88

Jalen is a 4th year senior. He is going to redshirt this year, making him a redshirt senior next year. Since he can graduate in may, heís also going to grad transfer and be eligible immediately. Double dipping in a sense.

The trouble is the OSU from the first half needs to show up for the whole game. A team like OU won't miss out on taking advantage of a team that's napping during the second half.

OSU won the Big 12 title in golf this past weekend by 11 shots over TCU. This is OSU's 55th conference championship in program history.

Regionals are announced on May 1 and take place May 13-15.

Bedlam baseball was this weekend. #16 OSU won 2 of 3 games to take the series for the third straight year. OU won the Saturday night game which snapped OSU's nine game win streak against OU.

OSU is now 23-7 against OU under Josh Holliday.

OU had lost to Texas in the Quarters in the early session.

This is now the third national championship since 2009 that OSU has been screwed out of because of the change in format. You don't decide who is best in match play. When a team wins the stroke play portion by 31, it's clear who is best. But, match play is more exciting for tv and that's why they switched it. Oddly enough, the biggest supporter and driver of the new format was Mike Holder.

Clearly every team plays just well enough to get in the top 8, probably even purposefully leave a few shots out there during stroke play, knowing that they will turn it on during match play.

Haha, can always count on boulder for a hot take, especially if it involves a dig at OSU.

That said, OSU choked when it mattered. Congrats to Stanford. And congrats to OSU on a stellar year and obliterating the field in stroke play and claiming the individual title.

no most teams struggle to make the match play ...

but not this osu team they are great and had bascily 0 pressure to make the top 8 because they are that good ... (if they had won this year they might have been the all time best team)

but that also meant they had 0 pressure in the stroke play ... some thing that clearly changes in the match play when the team title is on the line

For OSU not to win this year is a big upset any way you cut it. They have two of the top 4 Amateurs in the world. With Hammer beating Wolff and Bauchou losing (ranked 19th) they allowed Texas to slip in. Granted that Hammer is #5, but still, OSU was LOADED and a prohibitive favorite.

I'll look forward to watching Hovland progress.

Lol, I doubt the "high level" part. But I'll humor you and go along with it. Let's say you are a scratch golfer. Do you really think OSU wouldn't have won if it was just stroke play? They won stroke play by 31.......31! That's insane. They won 6 tournaments already this year. But yeah, I'm sure you're right, they would have been too nervous if it was just stroke play.

There's a reason only one PGA Tour event is match play. Can you imagine if they were to make the Masters match play? Or the US Open. They would never do that because match play is a terrible way to determine who is best. All it takes is one person to get hot on one day. That's not choking, as you like to say. Wolff lost his match, did Wolff choke? No, he just ran into a kid who was hot. Hammer birdied 6 of his first 8 holes. You can't do anything about that. That's why the best format for determining who is best is stroke play over multiple days. It balances out someone, or some team, having one good day. The cream always rises to the top.

PGA tour is individual and ncaa is team. Thatís why match is okay. To say stroke is the best measure is like adding up all the points of the wrestlers and the total high score wins, instead of player against player scoring. Match play keeps from over-rewarding a team for having one or two superior players but not overall depth.

Lafferty Daniel

What is wrong? Why?

Because match play allows lesser players and teams to compete with better players and teams. It helps even the playing field. If a team has five good players goes against a team that only has three, match play helps the team with three since you only need three good rounds to win.

Also better players tend to be more consistent and donít make big mistakes as often resulting in double or triple bogeys. Say the better player makes par and the worse makes a double. In stroke play heíd be up 2 whereas in match heís only up 1.

This is why four rounds of stroke play is how you should decide who is best. It helps even out if one team gets hot on one day. Thereís a reason OSU won stroke play by 31.

onthestrip
06-03-2019, 09:13 AM
As Lafferty says, match play does not always find the best team. It can be determined by 1 or 2 players who got hot or faced a less than hot team or players at the right time. Match play is an equalizer, helps level the field much more than stroke play. Otherwise, you would have seen more than 1 team who has won stroke play go on to win match play part in the 15 or more years they have had match play. Its also possible in match play to shoot a worse score than your opponent but still beat them.

On the other hand, if a team has two exceptional players and three mediocre ones it can win stroke play. But they have fewer good players and arenít necessarily the best team. If you donít have the majority of better players who can play under the pressure of playing one on one, you arenít the best TEAM.

This is true, but not the case in this situation. OSU wasnt a two horse team, they had 4 golfers finish in top 15 at NCAAs in a field of over 150 golfers. Only 1 Texas player finished better than the worst OSU golfer in stroke play. Thats how big of an equalizer match play can be. You can also look at world amateur rankings to know who has more better players. Yes, it also brings in pressure and situational golf and golfers have to be ready for that. But it really doesnt determine best team. If you played this 8 team match play 8 different times, you probably wont see the same team win it more than twice. Thats how much of a crap shoot it can be.

Dont misconstrue this as making excuses for a losing team, but you saying it determines the best team is quite far from reality. That'd be like saying Tiger, in his prime, wasnt the best player when he would lose in the WGC match play event.

Holder helped push it because it's better for college golf as a whole. Who was watching before the match play format started? Basically no one. The golf channel only started televising it in 2014.

Basically, it's a money thing. They're able to make more money on it now because it's televised and more people are tuning in because anything can happen. You think people are going to tune in when they see OSU is winning by 30? Nope. But they'll tune in for match play.

Yes, Holder was part of the push to bring in match play. Was all about making the game more exciting and to bring in more fans and viewers, regardless of how it skewed things.

Heres a little background. As with anyone knowledgable about golf, this writer knows that match play doesnt always present the best team.

Something had to be done if college golf wanted to grow. What was done was the drastic move to decide its national champion using match play. Most would agree the change has worked in creating more interest and getting more eyeballs on college golf.

Sure, the best team may not win.

We all know match play makes the competition more equal. We all know it does not tell us who the best golf team is. We all know stroke play is the best way to determine the best golfers.
