The schools that have tried this have reported reduced instances of binge drinking and drunk people in the stadium. One of those things that seem counter-intuitive, but it helps deter people from chugging beers before kick off.

This should help with 2nd half attendance as people leave to go back to their tailgates and do not return.

Oklahoma's strong beer will go into effect October 1, the October 27th game will be the 1st October home game when the Cowboys host the Longhorns.

WOW! You mean OSU has not had a terrorist incident with a leaving at half time policy at this late date? Who would have thunk it? Mean while the school I graduated from (OU) has no beer sales nor are you allowed to reenter if you leave at half time. I am sure the OU policy has nothing to do with a captive market.

keep in mind OU stopped re entry post 9/11 then restarted it for the 2002 season .. then didn't stop it again until the 2005 bomb went off

Fun story about osu re entry. They tried to kill it 4-5 years ago. They even announced it was going away.

One problem. The $10,000/year parking spaces right next to the stadium on the south side. All those donors were furious because it was a 5 minute walk to their seats. They would walk to their car at half have a few beers and walk back. They called, made the usual threats, and just like magic re entry was back.

Thx. for the background story Pokes. As with most things in life, "$ talks, BS walks." Money ain't walkin' either.

It’s pretty bad for the few games I’ve been to t. Boone for free tickets. But it’s really bad at memorial stadium as people try to get a 4 hour buzz before they enter the gates. I see people leave at half because they’re too drunk and a stadium dog or soggy personal pan pizza isn’t going to cut the alcohol. Plus they want more alcohol...

Is Oklahoma State hypocritical for selling beer at football games? https://newsok.com/article/5601370/is-oklahoma-state-hypocritical-for-selling-beer-at-football-games

IMO, this is a difference between College and Pro sports. I am inclined to be against beer sales at college games, but feel hypocritical because I have a few at the sports bar. Pro, I have no problem. Colorado did away with beer sales 20 years ago and reports better-behaved fans so I think that binge-drinking study could be argued. One way to limit is the way pro sports and concerts do it by making it expensive.
