I have an old truck (89 F150 with under 90k) that still runs on R12. The AC is blowing warm. I've been trying to find a place that can do one of two things.

Either fix and recharge the R12 or do a retrofit to 134a. I've had no luck at all on the former, and on the latter the quotes have been nuts. Over 1k for a retrofit. From what I understand it's basically vacuuming out the remaining r12, changing o rings, changing condenser oil, and recharging. I know you can get a DIY kit for about $50 so over $1000 seems very high. However, I've not found someone who specializes in auto AC and thought I might have better luck at a place that does.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Have taken a couple cars to this place for AC work in the past and I would definitely go there again: https://goo.gl/maps/1zoznYw7ufS2

These people aren't A/C only shop, but I've recently had my truck A/C worked on here and they were fair and did a good job.

They're not an AC specialist, but the replaced the compressor on my then 12-year-old Buick for what I thought was a very reasonable price - not cheap, but reasonable. Corwine Automotive in Moore
