I signed up at GetChipDrop.com (https://getchipdrop.com) a few weeks ago and got my first FREE load of wood chips yesterday morning.

ChipDrop's mission; "Helping arborists get rid of wood chips. Helping gardeners get cheap mulch."

Pretty simple and a great idea.

Just go to their website (https://getchipdrop.com), create a free account, specify what you want (wood chips only, wood and logs, logs only, type of wood, etc.) and when an arborist is in your area with a load they need to dump they drop it off at your house. You can get the wood for free or you can specify you are willing to pay "x" dollars - this might help move you to the top of the list if others in your area are signed up. I did the free default option.

Yesterday morning I received a call from a local tree company that said they were mulching in the are and had 6 yards of mulch if I wanted it. I said "you bet!" and about 45 minutes later it was being dumped in my driveway. The arborist said it's a big help to them because otherwise he has to drive his trucks all the way back to Guthrie to dump the wood and come back.

Depending on your needs, you should ask some questions; Did this wood come from diseased trees? What type of wood is it (don't want any black walnut)?

My main need is to mulch walking paths between our raised beds in our garden. Mulch looks nice and keeps us from tracking mud into the house. We also mulch our pollinator garden, around our bee hives, around some boulders and rock edging, and around some of our trees.

The mulch we got looked great - not Nichols Hills landscaping mulch that can run $7/bag, but still pretty good and much more convenient than me loading up my truck at a free mulch pile in the city and hauling it home 5 or more times.
