I am wanting an internet radio so I can listen to radio stations outside of our area. Does anyone have one that they can recommend? I have heard that you can connect them to your stereo to get a better sound. If any of you have suggestions, please post them.

Probably the least expensive option would be an Amazon Echo dot or Google Home mini. The Echo Dot is $29.99 and has a 3.5mm line out which you could connect to a stereo with an aux input. The Google Home Mini doesn't have line out, but it can send audio wirelessly to A Chromecast Audio receiver. Both devices support IHeartRadio and TuneIn Radio.

I'm not a big music person - just like it in the background while I work. If I actually want to 'listen' to something then I do podcasts, etc.

That said, I looked for my cheapest option. For me, it was my smart phone. Plenty of apps that cover radio stations all over the world. You can even get apps that rebroadcast popular shortwave communications and even law enforcement/first responders from all over the globe (really interesting to listen to when you hear of a disaster somewhere and you can hear the first responders live - been listening to California fire fighters off and on for a week or two).

I'm also an Amazon Prime member so I get their music options.

Lastly, over the past year or so we've added Sonos speakers all over our home and front and back patios. The Sonos app on my phone/desktop lets me play radio stations, music and podcasts throughout the house.

Smart phones can also use either their line-out, bluetooth or even wifi in some instances to play audio from apps to external speakers.

The iHeartRadio app allows you to play radio stations from all over the country. If you are wanting a more customized music experience I'd recommend Spotify. They have both a free and premium version.

http://radio.garden/live/ is the best! You can search the globe for radio stations everywhere.

http://nextradioapp.com/ is an app to activate the local FM radio in your phone if it has a built in tuner chip. No streaming charges when done that way. Antenna by using your earphones is required. Otherwise, you can use it to tune in radio stations from across the country that stream online. Streaming charges do apply then.

I would suggest TuneIn as an option in addition to iHeart. A subscription to TuneIn Premium will also get you sports broadcasts (useful to follow the NFL if they ever re-start blackouts, or if you follow out of market teams as I do [being from Cincinnati, I'm a Bengals and Reds fan]).
