We went last night and it was very crowded, line out the door to order at counter. For some reason there were 4+ bar seats open so we just sat there and ordered from bar. Perhaps people didn’t know they could order at bar but the counter line stayed long the whole time we were there. Burgers were very good, fresh and similar to something you’d cook at home if you knew what you were doing. Had a good looking drink menu including desert drinks. This will certainly be in our rotation for a while.

Nichols Hills location officially opened to the public on Monday.

Chisholm location is still 2-3 months out.

Went for lunch today. Line was out the door at noon but was maybe half as long by the time we left at 1:15. Took exactly an hour to stand in line, order and receive our food, which was good, but $16 for a burger, fries and a drink is a bit steep for a casual restaurant. In my mind, I've checked the box and don't really see much reason to go back considering all of the other burger options out there these days.

Went there for lunch today. The line to order was 20 minutes, but they were using only one cashier instead of two. Their soft drinks are their own (no Coke or Pepsi products), and they were out of Mexican Coke. Our order took 40 minutes to arrive, and the burger was so-so. It's very loud inside which is intentional, but it makes conversation a challenge. Exiting the parking lot onto 63rd Street took a while because it's a single shared exit with the new Starbucks next door (although you can leave via a rear exit through Nichols Hills Plaza, then onto either 63rd Street or Avondale).

For me, a higher price comes with the expectation of better food, preparation, service, environment and overall experience. I didn't feel that it checked any of those boxes.

I went yesterday and found it to be rather disappointing. Standing in a 45 minute line for a rather mediocre, $13 burger isn't exactly my idea of a good time. It's a lot like Whole Foods. You're paying for the right to tell your friends, family and co-workers that you ate a really expensive burger.

We were seated near the door when friends walked in. They told us that they had an hour for lunch, and we told them we’d been there for an hour and hadn’t yet been served. They couldn’t stay. You’d think that during opening week they’d be handling this better.

We went last night around 8:00. The process was a little different than I expected... you wait in line to order and they assign you a table while you're in line. Once you're seated there is a waitress that works your area and can get you drinks from the bar (you can also order drinks in line). For two burgers, two cocktails and a large Parmesan truffle fry it was ~$45. Not terribly expensive (the cocktails are on the high end for this type of place, ~$10). That being said, my burger was great. The wait was maybe 20 minutes from standing in line to getting our burger. Initially I thought this was going to be similar to Republic, but they are two totally different places.

I stopped by for lunch today. The meat and toppings were as good as I remember them to be. The bun was a little hard though, some crumbling when I pressed on it to get the burger in my mouth.

Went today with a group of four....

Arrived a bit before 1pm and the line was almost to the door but only about 70% of the tables were occupied - naturally the rest were pre-saved for people in line. I personally like that policy. Keeps people from hoarding tables while their party waits 40 minutes to even order.

The place itself is nice. It screams "New Nichols Hills Casual Burger Joint" but it's still really nice. It's also fairly loud inside. The staff was super friendly and attentive.

Took about 35 minutes to place an order - by then the line was out the door (just barely). Definitely not what I'd call a kid friendly place if your kids don't really have patience for lines and sitting at your table for awhile.

3 of us ordered shakes just to give them a try. I had chocolate and we all agreed they were "okay" but pretty watery and you couldn't taste the ice cream at all.

We all then shared the chili fries and the truffle fries - which arrived about 10 minutes before the burgers.

They were both pretty good with my preference going to the truffle variety.

When the burgers arrived (I had the PrimeTime) they looked great and we knew they had to be fresh off the grill because the place was so busy - but that's where it got a bit odd. We all agreed our burgers were not even remotely hot to even warm. They were all room temperature. I'm not even sure how that is possible.

As far as taste, they were okay. Definitely not bad. But definitely not impressive either.

For the cost and inconvenience, we all agreed this would not be on our regular rotation, but that we'd all come back if we were in the area and other's insisted.

When compared to burger joints with a proven track record, I'd eat at Tucker's before I'd venture into this place again.

I'll be interested to see if lines still exist come October.

Got terrible service at the bar. We chose the bar to skip standing in line. There’s a server behind the bar that doesn’t actually tend bar...but they also don’t run food so what’s the point?? We had to order from the server, then some poor soul who’s only job it is to stand at the drink well and make tickets had to make our drinks, along with all the other orders from the tables...Orders taken and ran by servers who also don’t take food orders or run food. Whaaaa?????

Our second drink orders that we placed slightly before our food arrived never came. So we eventually just asked they be taken off our bill so we could leave. Then she disappeared for ages to go find the manager to authorize the void.

After 90 minutes of not waiting in line, the burger were lame. Very decent beef, but there was little to no flavor despite all the quality ingredients. I could have been helped with just a little salt & pepper, but there was none to be found. I might go back in a year or two. Why not go to Tucker’s, or pops, or s&b, or garage if your in the area?

I still haven't been yet, but I'm wondering if some of these things people are writing about (slow service, food not being warm) are symptoms of a new place trying to get its act together. The high price point is a tougher obstacle to overcome though.

Our Simple Plan (as basic consumers rather than developers and certainly not critics), is/was, to entertain and feed a young couple, members of the extended family, on their long drive back to Minnesota, after a tour of duty in the Air Force, and following a visit to the Grand Canyon, while passing through Oklahoma City. It included three options: 1) The Wedge on N. Western; 2) Off the Hook on S. Merdian; and 3) Hopdoddy in Nichols Hills Plaza. Hopdoddy was chosen. I didn't argue. When we arrived at Hopdoddy it was so crowded and incredibly loud that we all decided that a few simple, easy, steps up north, to Pops #2, might be an acceptable alternative choice. Apparently it was OK. We all left smiling. I'm still craving the "Truffle Fries" at Hopdoddy and we will definitely return to sample them . . . yet the burger at Pop's wasn't too shabby. And priced right. =~)

Tried Hopdoddy's with my wife a week ago. Line was 45 mins. Burger was very good but there is already better in the market. The Truffle Fries were disappointing. Thin and hard.

I wonder how the Nichols Hills feedback (a big bag of 'meh') will impact the Chisolm Creek location.

I went by last night (a Tuesday) at 8:30PM and it was completely packed.

I'm sure they will do big business in this market.

Their model is similar to Torchy's Tacos and in both instances the bar traffic is a big driver. I'd say their most direct competitor is The Garage and the same can be said for them: There are better burgers in town but theirs are very good and they do a good job in general, so much so their much bigger locations are frequently full.

Hopdoddy is still my "go to" in Texas for a good burger. I'm sure lots of Texans will be happy there is one here if they are traveling up here. S&B/Tuckers/Garage do not exist in Texas and its a pain to find/research a good burger place but if I see a hopdoddy nearby, I'm in.

It's hilarious visiting this establishment and seeing the Nichols Hills crowd in all of its botoxed glory juxtaposed against the Austiny aesthetic. Weird location for this place but the burgers are pretty good. Hate the delivery concept, though. I just sit at the bar because standing in line for the burgers, as good as they are, seems ridiculous.

Sorry if you think you are being trolled...really just being called out for the kind of talk that promotes misinformation, division, and is trolling in and of itself. You obviously have some sort of problem with persons who might live in this wealthier neighborhood. Instead of just saying you don’t understand the wisdom of putting a more trendy upscale restaurant in Nichols Hills, you snark on the neighborhood people.

Hopdoddys has been packed from opening. And while I expect a good amount are from the near area, I would guess it has drawn interest from elsewhere as it’s the first in OKC. I’ll bet maybe some have had Botox, but I know for a fact some patrons of Kitchen 324, Hatch, Waffle Champion, honey Bunny, Hurts, etc., etc. have too. And they sit next to the tatted up, the millenials, the downtowners.....l

You just gotta be more subtle man. You coulda said “hilarious visiting this establishment and seeing a cool $4,000,000 in luxury cars, engines running, with tiny dogs locked inside yapping their F’ing brains out, juxtaposed against the Austiny aesthetic.”

But these two are message board flamers. So what are you gonna do? :-)

I don’t think Hoppydoddy is an example of Austin’s cool vibe. All I know is the parking lot has been jam packed here since they opened. So, Botox laden Nichols Hills snobs and tatted up hipster doofuses all seem to be liking it.

I got a serious education on Austin's vibe on a ULI trip there a few months ago, and it is a much different place than I remembered; much more big city and at the same time much less funky and cool the way I remembered it from trips in the 80s, 90s and early aughts. There is a pretty pronounced culture war there right now with massive tech money infusion pretty much overrunning the hippy vibe the place once was known for.

FYI - Hopdoddy wasn't started by a group of Austin hippies trying to keep Austin Weird. They are owned and operated by a family and group considered by some to be restaurant royalty. Think Hal Smith, but in Austin. They sold their Eddie V's concept to Darden for over $50 Million. That helps their expansion plans of Hopdoddy and several other concepts. It wouldn't surprise me if they sell off Hopdoddy at some point soon, if they haven't already.

Since Tuck is here I’ll tell a story that he may or may not appreciate. About a week and a half ago, as is standard one turns 50, I had a... ...medical procedure. It required me to essentially not eat a thing for two days prior. The morning of, I couldn’t even drink water, and didn’t go in for the test until after noon. As someone who can probably count on one hand the days when I haven had a meal since I was a toddler, I cannot begin to tell you how hungry I was.

Incidentally, for the past two months I have been on a weight loss plan. The good news is that have dropped 30 lbs and have cut my BP medication in half while at the same time dropping my numbers. The bad new is that the plan looks most unkindly on burgers. So I hadn’t enjoyed a Tucker’s burger - or ANY burger - in nearly 60 days.

So after denying myself a delicious burger for two months, and food of any kind for two days, plus enduring a miserable several days culminating in an ignominious, humiliating exam in front of a room full of strangers, I felt like I deserved a burger. So much so, apparently, that I loudly announced to the entire hospital as I was wheeled to recovery (I really don’t remember much) that I was going to have a G-D Tucker’s burger and fries and one of those delicious G-D milkshakes as soon as they let me out of that place. I was absolutely obsessed. Apparently I provided quite the entertainment for saint Anthony’s gastroenterology department for a while. But I will also point out that I also was shilling (pretty loudly) for Tucker’s. Which clearly proves the place it has in my heart.

Unfortunately, my heart is pretty full of hamburger already apparently, so I will have to keep the Tucker’s visits to a bit of a minimum for a while - until I drop some more weight at least - but I CAN tell you that absence makes the heart grow fonder and at that moment in time it was without question the most delicious burger I have ever eaten. I doubt I will ever attain that amount of emotional connection with Hopdoddy.

Tuck, you are absolutely welcome to print out this story and frame it in your Tucker’s locations.

We used to ride out to Orsak's Cafe in Fayetteville, Texas and the Blanco Bowling Cafe in Blanco. The burger at Blanco was one of the best that I ever had, it reminded me of the burgers at the old Windsor Hills bowling alley snack bar or the old flattop at the Lake Hefner Golf Course Pro Shop. We went to Hopdoddy on South Congress some and it was very good but we went to Mighty Fine Burgers in Sunset Valley (a concept from K&N Management, the owners of the Austin area Rudy's BBQ franchise) because it was about the same distance without the wait. I thought for a basic burger it was much better.

The gastro doc was the one who diagnosed my liver disease and sent me on the path to transplant.

Yes, Austin is driven way more by the buttoned up crowd than most think. If we think gentrification is happening too much here, go try living downtown Austin.
It's pretty much all of Austin now, it changed so much in just the nine years that I lived there from 2003. A friend from OKC who moved down there in 1988 said it is nowhere near the same place that it was.

Yes, they opened on Monday.

I went to a soft opening on Friday night. Had the Diablo Burger which was excellent. Truly a bit spicy and cooked perfectly; nice and juicy.
