I know this is a shot in the dark but........are there any bankers on here that understand the process of cashing Savings Bonds. My problem is it sounds like the owner has to be present at the bank period. We found 37 Bonds in mom's basement. She's in a nursing home and it would be very difficult to nearly impossible to get her to a bank. Help? Anyone?

Payment can be made to a legal representative or you can refer the request to the Treasury Retail Securities Site at FRB Minneapolis.

I know that a legal representative can be named but it looks like the form to designate such representative requires that the owner of the Bonds be present at a bank for an officer to witness the signing of the form.
I guess I'll try Minneapolis.

Can you get a bank officer to come to you?I'm going to try and find one that will. That would be my first choice. Part of posting this was maybe someone qualified would see it and be interested in helping.

Power of attorney process with a form specifically for this purpose.

That's the Treasury specific Power Of Attorney I've already mentioned. For it I have to get mom to a certified bank officer or a certified bank officer to her.
