If you would like to help the Northwest Classen football team, please read the message and donate for their team meals. Evidently some of the boys come from homes where nightly meals are not provided. I can't imagine playing a football game on an empty stomach. Even if you could only donate five dollars, it would help the boys. Thank you in advance.

Looks like they raised quite a bit in one day. That's awesome!

Not sure if it's the same person most of us know, but I see Wes Welker made a nice donation.

In January 1971, cigarette advertisements were banned from television.

In late September 1971, the Northwest Classen football team had a 3-0 record.

Here in 2016, cigarette ads are still nowhere to be seen on TV, but as of last Friday, the Knights of Northwest Classen are finally 3-0 again.

The 52-47 win over Tulsa Hale helped the Knights to their best start in 45 years, following victories over SeeWorth Academy and Centennial.

That's the best comparison or moment in history the writer could pick from 1971?

We went to the NW game last Friday night and hung around long enough to be among the last dogs to leave. It's amazing how many participants (band, cheer, FB team) were picked up afterwards. Sad to see that so few parents could/would attend the game. There were about as many fans in the seats on the visitor (east) side as on the home side. Sad situation regarding more than meals; I'm at a loss for a solution.

I noticed this a couple of years ago. I live in OKC now, but my alma mater played NW Classen on their senior night. There were maybe 20-30 people on the home side. It was sad to see so many seniors being recognized without their parents on the field with them. My alma mater is 2.5-3 hours away, and had about 500 fans make the long road trip. Granted, NW Classen's football team was terrible, and lost by 50+ points, but I remember my friend making a comment about the score being "sad." A guy sitting in front of us said, "what's sadder is seeing all these kids by themselves out on the field with no support."
