Just found out from the property manager at Founders Tower that a new Marriott Residence Inn is to be built on the parcel where the Continental Theater used to stand. Construction is set to begin this spring.

Hitesh Patel is the developer:

Champion Hotels | Our Properties (http://www.championhotels.com/properties.php)

It will be five stories.

I work at a Champion property right next to where this will be built. The owner where I work is the brother-in-law of Champ Patel, CEO of Champion Hotels. I just inquired with him about this development, and it will be in operation by late 2016 - early 2017 at the latest. This development has been in the works since I started with the company in 2010.

Will it be the typical cheap suburban design or will it have a more upscale or urban look given it's location?

Haven't seen much progress on this project. Anyone have an update?

Most likely 4 or 5 story typical design for limited service hotel. Don't expect anything either too upscale or with much progressive design. It is in the suburbs and will be suburban.

Sorry, I guess I am being impatient. I saw what was posted back in early March at that time and was expecting "soon" to mean...soon.

With any luck it will be cheap, and have a nice pool. Sometimes in the dog days of summer we like to come to this side of town and rent a room to splash in the pool all day. It's cheaper than white water, theres a lot more booze, and you don't have to uber home.

I was told they are opening next month sometime---but that was about two months ago, so we'll see.
