I don't have a sub, so maybe Warreng can post this, but a defense contractor is building a new HQ in the Quail Springs Corporate Park. That area is really heating up. This seems like a solid high-tech set-up, which is needed.

Launchpad OKC: Aerospace company DRG buys land for $10M HQ, simulator site

By: Molly M. Fleming The Journal RecordNovember 19, 20140

OKLAHOMA CITY – A company that specializes in the aerospace defense industry will soon expand its footprint in Oklahoma City.

Delaware Resource Group has purchased 4.9 acres in Quail Springs Corporate Park and will build a $10 million, 38,000-square-foot headquarters on the site. Construction is expected to start in January and could wrap up as early as December 2015.

The new building will nearly double the company’s space. It occupies 100 percent of the 4747 Gaillardia Pkwy. building. The company employs more than 700 people across 30 states and five countries, with 125 people working in Oklahoma City.

The building was designed by Bockus-Payne Associates Architects, which drew inspiration from the Georgian and Federalist traditions of American architecture. It will be built by Oklahoma-based construction firm Smith-Pickel, and Oklahoma City-based KFC Engineering’s Alan Kirkpatrick will provide the structural engineering.

Philip Busey Jr., DRG chief communications officer and senior vice president, said the company wanted to build its own facility because of its usage plans.

“We’re going to have a simulator bay in the building,” Busey said.

The bay will have a large latch door for truck entrance. Trucks will be able to bring in simulation equipment, which will be tested before being shipped to the appropriate place. The equipment is certified by a government entity like the Federal Aviation Administration or the U.S. Air Force. Since the company doesn’t have this space currently, it must send employees to testing sites.

“We’ll be able to do a lot more work than we currently do,” he said. “This will increase our capacity and allow us to do some other types of things that we couldn’t just do in the settings that we have to do now.”

Busey said the building will give the company a more prominent face in the city. He said at the existing space, there is no exterior signage.

“I think it will show people that we’re here,” Busey said. “Right now, we don’t have our name on anything. To be able to see our corporate presence here will continue to make an impact locally.”

The building will better reflect DRG’s industry, with plans to create a dome-like appearance in the atrium. It will be painted like a sky, with a model plane hanging from the ceiling. The building will also have a 1,000-square-foot gym. Busey said employees now have to alternate workout times in order to not fill the gym.

The design features a lot of windows, which Kirkpatrick said will create a challenge.

“Every building has to be stabilized laterally,” he said. “With this building, where we would normally like to put the braces, we can’t just because of aesthetics.”

The building will have an adjacent parking lot, with extra space on the land for growth. In the next year, the company will hire 50 more employees to accommodate work generated by a contract it was awarded, along with Broken Arrow’s CymStar, to provide training for the C-130J aircraft.

Greater Oklahoma City Chamber President and CEO Roy Williams said DRG’s expansion shows how far Oklahoma companies can reach.

“I think it shows (other aerospace industry companies) that Oklahoma is a great launchpad if you’re doing business domestically and internationally as well,” Williams said. “You can reach those markets very easily from here. You can do business all over the world from Oklahoma City.”

He said DRG’s growth shows that the Oklahoma aerospace industry has moved beyond maintenance, repair and overhaul, operations that are generally performed by companies contracted with Tinker Air Force Base.

“To see DRG grow and flourish not just domestically but internationally is exciting,” Williams said. “To generate that kind of contract volume that they do is pretty phenomenal. It’s another feather in our cap as far as the aerospace industry.”

Busey said DRG has a $400 million backlog of government contracts.

I personally like the Federalism-Georgian architecture look! Fits in very well in a suburban office setting.
