View Full Version : The "Original" Iguana Lounge . . .
RadicalModerate 09-29-2014, 07:10 PM Does anyone else remember this dining spot, located on N. Western, immediately north of The Local Hideaway Pizza--recently reopened. I know that there is a redux of The Iguana over by Wayne Coyne's tribute to timeless culture, yet I'm still curious about the "Original" version of the "Semi-Hispanic Fusion Cuisine" purveyor (on N. Western).
The reason I'm curious is because, just tonight, I took another run at what was probably the best potato side-dish ever. Mine wasn't too shabby, but the one at the Original Iguana still has yet to be duplicated. At least by me. =)
So . . . Previous owners of that spot? Where are they now? What was the secret to that potato side?
Prunepicker 10-12-2014, 09:58 PM I'm thinking it was in a location that was once D'artagnan's. I gigged there in
the 80's. It was on the east side of north Western and north of Hideaway.
I want to say 65th but unless I drive there I won't know. Everything changes
and I don't like it. I don't believe it was as far north as where the Gridiron
Drive In was, which became Leo's.
We talked about this with our incredible visit with CT Chandler at the Steak
and Catfish Barn. They should provide a green salsa for the catfish.
Odd that I didn't know that we were talking about two different locations.
RadicalModerate 10-12-2014, 10:56 PM I think you nailed it. =)
(edited to add: "amigo". =)
"Always Tell the Truth. That way you don't have to keep track of all the lies"
(c/o Sam [aka Mark Twain] Clements, paraphrased)
So . . . Do you really think that "Chipmunks on a Skewer" might be a viable alternative to that other option? The one involving Kebabs with Green Tomato Relish? =)
For sure it beats "Sushi or Sashimi" . . . at least "in MY book" . . . as my grandad used to say.
bluedogok 10-13-2014, 06:32 PM Wasn't it also the Full Moon before the Iguana or was that another building?
Urbanized 10-13-2014, 07:14 PM I think you're right. Forgot all about Full Moon. Really liked it for a while...think they were out of Tulsa?
bluedogok 10-13-2014, 07:40 PM Yep, they had one on Cherry Street. We frequented the Full Moon often.

Magnolia Cafe prior to it being Full Moon.
ctchandler 10-14-2014, 10:33 AM Buffolo Bill,
I had totally forgotten the Magnolia Cafe, good one. Now if you can tell me the former names of the Metro Wine Bar and Bistro, or at least what it was in the early to mid 70's, I would appreciate it.

I believe it was simply, "The Pub". Not too sure on that, though. It was a while ago.

No, that wasn't it. Maybe somebody will have the answer.

I remember that now...
RadicalModerate 10-14-2014, 10:58 PM I think it's now branded West.
Just North of that pizza joint.
From somewhere up around
Stillwater
They share parking.
After the fire.
At least the building
was repurposed.
North Western
needs some minor
improvements
in that direction
=) : An indirect Tribute to the Former Graffiti Bridge. or whatever. =)
