Once again somebody thought this shirt was a good idea....

A department store in the Philippines was selling a brown T-shirt reading, “It’s Not Rape It’s a Snuggle With a Struggle,” with two hands forming the shape of a heart in the middle. But after the photo went viral, the product was pulled from the retailer’s shelves.

Karen Kunawicz, who is from New Orleans, La., found the shirt at SM Supermall in Pasay City. She shared a photo of the offensive tee on her Facebook page, and it promptly received thousands of shares and comments from friends around the world. She said she spotted it in the statement tees section for boys. “I was shaking I could not take a proper photo,” she wrote on her wall. “Insulting to women and girls and as a mom of a soon to be 13 year old, it made me want to throw up.”

John Lennon wrote a song about this continuing problem. That shirt is disgusting.

It's disturbing how many hands this had to pass through to get from concept to store shelf, and not one person stopped and said "I don't think this is a good idea." Are they really that clueless, or is it an extreme case of putting $$$$$$ ahead of good taste?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ At least in some cases. Here's a story about it:

Offensive Kent State Urban Outfitters shirt sparks controversy, asks why brands troll their customers. (http://www.slate.com/blogs/business_insider/2014/09/19/offensive_kent_state_urban_outfitters_shirt_sparks _controversy_asks_why.html)

One time, when I was much younger, I sat in the presence of a very wise man. I was about 19 and he was my girlfriend's dad. A southern gentleman, of the Arkansas persuasion, who decided he was tired of running the pig farm for the University of Arkansas and decided to become a lawyer when he was about 48 years old. It was out on his back porch and he was enjoying a HavaTampa Jewel as we gazed out over his acreage just outside of Fayetteville, out on the road to Goshen.

"You know . . ." he said, " . . . the message on a tee shirt says two things. It says what it says on the tee shirt and it says something about the person wearing it."

When I encountered this thread I remembered his observation and thought, at this point in life, at which I'm about 14 years older than he was then, "What sort of total, complete asshole would buy and wear a tee shirt like the one pictured?" I think that the mfg. of that POS needs to rethink their business plan.

Yup.

*THIS JUST IN*

People in other countries may not speak English.

All it took was one arsehole to make this happen. The rest of the chain just ran with it...Probably because they didn't want to be the guy that said "but what does it SAY boss?"

same reason i wouldn't wear something like this:

as if i'm going to take somebody's word that means "university of texas" and not "i'm a gigantic douche." *

* in this case the translation might be accurate but that's beside the point.

I'm even wary of Oriental Symbol Tattoos. Not to mention The Oriental Trading Company.
Go to their website catalog and check out the Religious/Holiday section.
It's almost as endlessly amusing as that American Science and Surplus (or whatever) treasure trove.
(except for the American Science and Surplus copywriters are almost as funny as The Onion. On purpose.)

Yes. Mostly political. Political or R. Crumb cartoon ripoffs.
"Keep on Truckin' . . ." =)
(with an outline stenciled fist for a) solidarity . . . b) outrage . . . c) jacking off . . . d) all of the above =)

Of course there was "Nuke the Whales" . . . that could be taken on several different levels. =)
I think it was in The Whole Earth Catalog. Right next to an ad for Prototype Earth Shoes or Bierkenstocks.
