I first smelt it around I-40 and EK Gaylord. It is hard to describe but it made me take a different route just to avoid the area. Maybe like sewage mixed with burnt tires. It is powerful.

This morning I could smell it all the way in the CBD.

Anyone know where this is coming from?

Take I-35 North until you smell it, and then East until you step in it. Stillwater, OK

But there is no longer a big OSU pig farm next door to a restaurant there.

Somehow a Denver-style rendering plant and Anderson, MO chicken facility slipped past the Planning Review Board.
That, or a recent earthquake loosed something evil under what used to be Stage "Mummer's Theater" Center?

In LA they had the odor issue and threatened to close down the Sriracha plant til they could control the emissions. Do we have any ordinances like that which would allow us to force them to control the odor?

If we don't, we should.
Fair trade and the Fair Market Price of Sriracha be danged.
There should be an App to make it easy to express my displeasure. =)
Oh! Wait! There is!!!

That would be nice. I understand that the Producers Co-Op is an important part of OKC history and is beloved by many, not to mention the number of people it employs. However, it would be nice if something could be done about the smell.

This probably has nothing to do with the Stench currently under consideration . . . yet what was that LA Smog-esque Haze blocking the pristine view of not just the Devon Tower but the entire downtown area from the perspective of somewhere near Portland and 10th last Saturday Morning, around 10:00 am all about?

Obviously it wasn't a traffic issue.
Therefore I am baffled and non-plussed.

Could it have something to do with the precursors of wastewater earthquakes?
geez . . . I hope not.

Not sure what's wrong with the smell of money and history. Unless you live near a cattle lot, or worse, a hog lot.
Have yet to come across anything that smells worse than a hog farm, and I grew up with kin who can manufacture a bio-weapon, aka the yellow cloud of death.

There may be some good news soon...

I'm hearing that a prominent local developer is working to acquire and redevelop this property.

I will agree that the smell has been seemingly stronger than usual the past month. Perhaps it is amplified by hotter air temperatures.

I was thinking that too. Honestly I rarely notice the smell, but maybe a few times a year.

Wow. That would be amazing. I understand that the Producer's Co-Op is part of OKC history, provides jobs, and has nostalgic qualities for people who grew up here, but it also fronts some of the most prime property in the city and as long as its there, it could hamper certain developments such as the Lumber Yard (providing that is a real possibility at all). It would be awesome to see it redeveloped.

Thanks for the answers guys!

The smell wasn't as bad this morning at least I couldn't smell it in the CBD. Over the last two weeks I could smell it as soon as I walked out of Park Harvey.

I was actually right down there where it (the funky stank) originates.
The Myriad Gardens is running out of water.
Or imagination. Or Canton Lake.
Or whatever.
More to follow at Ten.

"Ten? I can't wait until ten . . . Where's my duckpond?"
"threat has been detected" . . .

I have lived in Mid-town for 7 years now, and I never smelled the stink like have recently. It's bad, on the streets, on I-40, just takes your breath away. I had no idea where it was coming from until I read this thread, like I said, never smelled it before, and that was even whn bike riding in the area.

The smells seems to have calmed down. I don't smell it in CBD or near i-40. It must have been because of the heat wave for a little bit there.

I welcome a smell free downtown.

I agree that the heat is a factor, but I think it has mostly to do with which process/quantity is underway at the cottonseed mill.
