Yet another local retailer coming to Midtown, this time the first brick-and-mortar store for Jerky.com.

They are going into a previously abandoned 1,200 square foot building at 918 N. Hudson and plan to be open in August.

In addition to all types of gourmet jerkeys, they sell other snacks like popcorn and pretzels.

I'm no longer convinced this is still for jerky.com. Tenants have been moved in for a few weeks, but it looks more like offices/cubicles and not retail space like it once looked. There is no signage, and I no longer see the jerky.com mini vehicle that used to regularly park there. I suppose it could be a fluke, but I'm wondering if someone made them an offer they couldn't refuse?

The do a ton of Internet sales, and I would guess their largest segment of business will remain online. If web content management and online sales fulfillment is a large part of what they are doing in this location, it would explain a seemingly disproportionate office to retail space ratio.

It's possible/likely that this location primarily supports their online presence, and that the walk-in aspect of it is just an added revenue stream AND a convenience for locals who keep wanting to swing by their houses (or wherever they have been conducting business heretofore) to pick up some wild boar jerky.

Hello, OKCTalk...I can't believe you guys are following the progression of this thing so closely! Thank you for the interest!

918 North Hudson Ave IS Jerky.com as our first store! There are minimal desks and officey-type stuff...just a bunch of jerky, meat snacks and our other snacks.

It's been a long, loooong road to get here as our General Contractor was able to turn what should have been a 2-3 month job into a 7-8 month job. So, it hasn't been exactly smooth or frustration-free. Sorry for the delays and the missed deadlines.

We are currently operating out of the location as we continue to get the place ready for our Grand Opening (Late March - Early April) and we are working on getting the sign wrapped up and mounted by the end of the month. Until then, feel free to swing in and say 'hi', to just check the place out or even to heckle us, if you want. We are usually here during business hours m-f...so stop in, if you want!

Thanks again for all of your interest and following the progress. We are thrilled to be at this location and to be a part of a community that doesn't exist solely on the inter-webs. :)

Genuinely,

Nice!

To me, this isn't one of those super large projects, but in a way, it is equally if not more impactful to the area because it adds character and charm. You're walking down the street with tons of different options and "hey, check it out, a place specifically for Jerky."

Maybe you want some maybe you don't. Maybe you keep walking maybe you spend hours in there. All I know is that it now an option that we didn't have before and that is great!

I don't eat Jerky, but I know some people who do so I plan on buying an surgeons desk full of Jerky for some friends before I head out to LA to support this place!

I agree. I'm not the biggest jerky fan in the world, but a place that only sells jerky (and some exotic kinds at that) seems like an interesting concept and worth a look. I'd be willing to buy ostrich jerky just for the fact that I could tell people I've tried it.

Pete

They also have some Oklahoma-specific stuff that would make great gifts to out-of-state friends and family.

And I agree, this is an impressive and very cool little project, especially considering what this building looked like for the last several decades.

And it's great symbiosis with H & 8th; provides another vendor for the event and brings an absolute avalanche of people through their front door.

Tamashii Ramen is on the same block and owned by the same landlord and that will be another little gem where there was once just an ugly abandoned building.

The BF and I saw their store and bought a few varieties of their jerky during H & 8th... We liked everything we got. Even something I didn't think I'd like, the rainbow trout jerky, was surprisingly great. Favorite was the brisket-style teriyaki beef jerky, and their hot peanuts. Very glad these guys are around, and that they could turn a disused building like that into a simple but very functional storefront. Every time we walked by, they were busy!

i went last saturday and really liked the place. when i went in, they had the front garage door open, so you could just walk right in... it was really inviting. the people running the place were really friendly and took a lot of time to explain everything to the customers that were there. it looked as if they were completely out of several of the flavors, so they must have done well the previous night at h&8th.

i'm a casual fan of jerky and have been going to 'the beef jerky emporium' a few times a year to get my fix. the jerky that i bought from jerky.com is really good so far, but i haven't tried all of the flavors that i purchased yet. so far, i've tried turkey, beef, and buffalo. the turkey was my least favorite so far (not that it was bad) and it was from their 'city slicker' line meaning that it's thick tender pieces. the beef and buffalo were both from their traditional line and both had really good flavor/texture. i have yet to try the elk and alpaca that i purchased. the boar sounds really good, i'll have to look for that next time. -M

Stopped in this week. As Martin said, the place was inviting and the people explain anything you need to know. They also let us try a beef stick. These are similar to a slim jim, but there is so much flavor in them and they taste fresh and juicy. These are great for the kiddos and you can buy 150 sticks for only $32. It is a snack that can last for a long time. We saw the pork jerky collection and found it to be great for those who don't love jerky, but love bacon. This is a great place for meat eaters!

Not sure if you can get samples of everything but I was in there yesterday and I was looking at a big bag of beef sticks and they gave me a sample of one but they took it out of their bin where they sell them individually. Looked like all the jerky they were selling was in pre-weighed pouches.

They were really friendly and helpful. So I don't think it would hurt to ask.... I'll definitely be a regular customer over there now.

I was also in there Saturday. I am a vegetarian but my husband is not. I bought a bag of flavored pretzels and a can of flavored peanuts both of which were quite good. There are quite a few flavors of both pretzels and peanuts as well as licorice. So something for about everyone.

Also, the owner of the new ramen shop was there and he said they will be open soon. I am quite excited about that.

I had to go downtown to pay a traffic ticket. Instead of making it a depressing chore of a trip, I decide to take the wife and our two children on a downtown trip. After stops at the Myriad Gardens, Coney Island, and the library, we took the scenic route up through Midtown. After patronizing the Jerky.com guys at the Bethany Independence Day celebration and Live on the Plaza, the wife was excited to see their shop. She has an unnatural affinity for Jerky and would have spent hours and hundreds of dollars in there if I had let her. Doug was very helpful and hooked us up with some elk jerky and some pineapple jerky and also some licorice for my boy. Great little shop and will be a regular stop on our periodic downtown excursions.

They opened at 119 E. Reno today (just east of Whiskey Chicks) and permanently closed their Midtown location at 918 N. Hudson.

They'll kill it there. A lot of people don't know that their business model is mostly online fulfillment, so they don't fully depend on walk-in customers. But the foot traffic in this location will be many multiples of what they saw on Hudson, and the product is perfect for the demographic they will see on Reno. I hope they are staffing up, because they will be absolutely SLAMMED at certain times of the year. Stuck my head in on Tuesday night, and it looks fantastic.
