Oklahoma's Bob Stoops getting new contract; new $5M man? - CBSSports.com (http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/jeremy-fowler/24596043/ous-bob-stoops-getting-new-contract-new-5m-man-)

An enhanced contract for Oklahoma's Bob Stoops will go before the school's board of regents Wednesday, pushing the Sooners coach closer to the top of highest-paid coaches, CBSSports.com has learned.

Stoops – coming off a fourth straight double-digit-win season and a resounding Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama – is expected to hit the $5 million annual threshold sooner than in his current deal, which reportedly called for $5-plus million from 2016-18 after escalators.

But when a CEO of a corporation makes that kind of money people are outraged.

At least in this case, the CEO makes a ton of money for his employer.

The OU athletic department is one of only a few that actually makes more than it spends and of course, football generates almost all that revenue. In fact, last year the AD gave the university $8 million.

Before Stoops came along, athletics were in the red.

Not saying it isn't all a bit crazy, but at least there is a tiny bit of justification here.

I'm not sure I would think of Stoops as a CEO. David Boren is CEO, Joe Castiglione is COO and Bob stoops is the Department Manager that actually makes things happen. I have no problem with any corporation that pays the people that make things happen well.

Well, perhaps he'll make something happen this year then. Bud and Barry made something happen a lot more often for a lot less compensation.

Probably bad timing to announce their tuition increase today.

BORs also announced a scholarship fund to help education majors graduate debt free who commit to teaching in Oklahoma (and obviously not make much money). So, that helps some.

And obviously compensation has little to do with winning national championships, either.

Of the top 4 highest paid coaches in college football, only Stoops and Saban have won a title.

Show me where i said it did. From a public perception point of view, it's probably not the best of timing.
