The Journal Record had an article today (4/1/14) that Gander Mountain is actively looks for spots in both OKC and Tulsa.

http://www.gandermountain.com/

They take about 45,000 square feet on 5 acres. For comparison, the Dick's a Quail springs is about 33,000 square feet.

They currently have 131 stores in 24 states.

Gander is being represented by CBRE and it looks like they are scouting just one location in both cities.

The best location for Gander would be Norman - 24th & Hwy 9 ; On the west side. Great location for them. Great location for their customers, the outdoor sportsman. The southern portion of the state, the SE / SW would have great access.

...and very easy access on the Lindsey exit / Hwy 9 exit and Extremely High Visibility.

Interesting. I've never heard of this company before. Think it will affect Cabela's or possibly an REI coming to the area? Not sure what the difference is between this company and the Bass Pros, Cabela's or the REI's of the world. I was in scouts, but that was 15 years ago. I am married so we don't camp...

Gander Mountain is great! I hope they build a store in the OKC metro. Firearms and camping selection is great.

They have a different mix that Bass Pro or Cebala's. More clothing and seemed more for the camping to me. The one I've been to was in Mn. Hope they come.

Prediction: The Tulsa location will open first and will be a major blow to moral and confidence in OKC. This move will ruin all of our lives permanently... Haha

They have a store in Sherman Texas, I believe it took over a portion of a Kmart building.

Actually the Dick's at Quail Springs is about 61,000 sf.

I'm still hoping for a Cabelas but if they do North side I'd love Gander to be on the South.

It is always nice to have options but Gander Mountain is usually one of the last places that I check, Cabela's and Bass Pro are usually 1 and 2. Sportsman's Warehouse would be higher if they had a south metro store instead of the one in Thornton (far north Denver metro). It will be a good get for OKC and Tulsa.

I think it could work, but the question is where. They aren't small stores by any means and space is somewhat limited.

I don't have my laptop with me so I can't screen shot anything, but if you go to Google Maps- go to Penn and 240, then right next to that is road going into a shopping center Penn Park BLVD. there is another small road that goes from the service road straight to Penn Park BLVD and it dead ends. At the end of that road there is a fairly large vacant lot, would that be big enough?

I've never noticed that, but yeah that looks big enough.

I've never noticed that, but yeah that looks big enough.Yeah it's kind of hidden, which isn't necessarily a bad thing since it hides the lot, but hopefully won't affect the store and I suspect if it is large enough, it'll stand out. They are building something in the lot in front of it. It was said to be a Canes, but that will be a very large Canes if so.

The Gander Mountain in Aurora is effectively using about half its floor space, it is around the same size as a recently built Dick's Sporting Goods. They have a lot of room between displays. think they may be downsizing stores as the one in Aurora has been there for awhile.

Pete, is this still in the works for the area?

Well, Tulsa is getting one, so seeing as they publicly announced they were also looking into the OKC Market, I would think an announcement should be close.

Hopefully the South side. Then the North will have Cabelas, central Bass Pro and the South Gander. Sounds good anyways.

I think this would be great for I240 or perhaps somewhere close to Will Rodgers airport

I thought that south Okc already had a Gander Mountain. Over off of 240 east of Crossroads Mall.

I think it is the original Gander mtn. They keep adding onto too.
