Good God! I can't remember when I've had a better fun time than I did tonight at the KOMA FamJam at the Clarion Meridian Convention Center, I-40 & Meridian! It was a total blast. I didn't take my digital camera when I went, so I didn't get pics of the very nice lead-on band, "Nerd ___", (I don't have the band's last name) and I'm sorry about that. I saw the electricty of about 750 (+ or - 250) people, mostly "vintage" like myself (but with notable exceptions) just having a blast listening, dancing, or watching others do so, to those great 50's - 70's tunes that are played on KOMA FM. Danny Williams did a monologue which was a total hoot ... and at 78 years of age he is obviously still enjoying himself, as we did him! The large room was packed ... I cannot believe how many "baby boomers" (my wife said that I shouldn't call us old farts) are such great dancers! It was a marvelous evening, and I wanted to pass some pics along. Here they are:

Left: T-Shirt (I didn't buy) Right: My beautiful bride, Mary Jo, her sumptuous daughter, Catherine, Me, and Steve Bennett of KOMA/KRXO News Fame

KOMA Fan Jam 2005 (continued)

Left: The No-Contest Best Dancers in the room (damn, I wish that I could dance like that that guy in the yellow shirt ... he'd win awards if it was a competition; my wife noticed him first; then, after watching, I toasted him! This couple was great!). Right: The main band, The Wise Guys, who were outstanding!

Everyone wasn't vintage. My favorite view of the night ... ahh ... and God help me, since my wife will surely kill me! 2 pics of this humongeously beautiful person ... but as a mere photographer, particularly at my ripe age, I presume that I can take the pictures that I consider to be the best, right? If you agree with my stance on academic freedom, please inform my wife. I'll be needing some assistance, I think! I don't understand why my remarkable artistic capabilities are not appreciated and undrerstood by everyone!

KOMA Fan Jam 2005 (continued)

Great performances occurred all night. Not only did Dan-D-Dynamo make his presence remarkably felt, so did Ronnie Kaye, and both were great! Do any of you old-timers remember listenting to KOMA IN California, or at least as you were returning to OK from California in the Arizona desert? I do. And, it was a such a pleasure.

And, so were the tunes this night. Right: I can't remember what he sang, but it was great; Right & bottom ... well, I guess you can see ... it's the Vintage People, reincarnated, right here in Okc! What a good time was had by all!

Karrie,

Yeah, it was LOTS of fun! It's amazing to see so many people who are SOOOO much older than me :LolLolLol move around the very large dance floor so very quickly! As for me, I was tired and "dragging" upon arrival around 7 pm but the excitement of the evening woke me up, somehow! But, around 11 or 11:30 (?) I turned into a pumpkin ... but managed, somehow, to get home and get these pics posted.

As for "notice" of such events, at least this one, I'm not sure of how "one" would know unless you listen to KOMA on a fairly regular basis ... I wasn't aware of it (I do listen to KOMA ... 92.5 ... occasionally when I'm driving) until Friday when my wife told me that we'd been invited by her daughter & husband to go. I think it's something the station does for its "fans" every summer. Steve does the news for KOMA and its sister stations (KRXO, maybe others, I don't know).

BTW, I see that, in a couple of the pics above, I mentioned the reincarnation of the "Vintage People". Of course, that was a Freudian slip ... I meant to say, "Village People"! :LolLolLol

Thanks! Were you at the Fan Jam and if so what did you think of it?

Doug,

The pictures are great! I'm the ugly old fart in the blue Marvin Martin shirt. It was a fun night. I can't remember the last time I had such a great time. Thanks KOMA. All of the radio personalities were terrific! I got a chance to talk to most of them. They were as fun in person as they are on the air. I'm a big KOMA fan, along with my 12 year old daughter. Too bad she couldn't come along (adults only). I look forward to next year's event.

Also, thanks for pointing out the website.
