Was this similar to our Gazette, or do they still have something like that as well?

Somewhat similar but not as good, no color, lots of ads, etc. It was a good source for live music/concert info though. This Land, while not an alternative weekly, functions in a similar way for Tulsa and is a lot more interesting. But it's not free (at least the paper version).

Urban Tulsa was an odd duck - not sure it was ever suited for long term survival. It was editorially on the right, which is the exact opposite of how most alt weekly newspaper audiences are wired. They didn't accept the typical low-life mix of adult entertainment advertising in their early years, though I think that changed in recent years. The publication wasn't nearly as good as the Gazette on its worst week.

Steve you are far too kind.

I thought it was garbage and can't believe it lasted as long as it did. Terrible write ups, amateur graphics, everything about it was second rate. And yes it was very right wing.

Frankly I figured their time was nearly up when they recently published an article from one of their "guest columnists" that basically stated, "if you take out all of the murders Tulsa's crime rate isn't so bad!"

This Land Press is eons better if you want to know whats happening in Tulsa and well worth the price.
