I don't know if this is the greatest, but they are tasty snacks. This is my fav food that McDonald's sells. I don't eat them often, but sometimes they are the perfect comfort food.

I loved the Freakonomics book. Leavitt is great.

When you have that crave and all you have to do is scrounge around for some change and pull over into the closest drive-thru - yes, a double cheeseburger from McD is my go-to.

Great - that's all the mental reinforcement some lazy parents need to continue to make McD's a daily meal time routine for their kids. Go ahead, "Super Size It!" that must make it doubly nutritious.......

I gotta think a 5 dollar little Caesar's hot or ready is in the running.

Honest answer to the original question? Salt. Without it, we would probably not be here.

Mantison,
The definition of food is "Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for the body" and I don't think salt qualifies. As important as it is/was, without food, we wouldn't have a need for salt.

I consider salt a mineral or a component of food. Only the salt-vampire aliens from M-113 sit down to have a plate of salt. I view flour the same way. To answer the original question - bread. Its the renewable food that allowed our hunter-gatherer ancestors to settle in one place and create centers for civilization.

Nobody sits down to have a plate of salt.

Bacon. The answer is always Bacon.

I would second "bacon", but it's strictly a biased choice. Google/search for bacon bomb, it doesn't get much better than that.

It has to be a toss-up between Tofurky and Soylent Green.

rice. little else can turn most any soup into a filling side dish, stretch two strips of bacon or the patties of a McD to feed several, hide bits of veggies to get even small fry to try 'em, and be just as tasty with milk and sugar as it is with pepper butter and a hint of garlic.

rice ... for the win.

And you can still eat it if you're gluten-intolerant.

Beer. It is a food, right?

Well, it does have grains, so there's that. Plus, you can dip bacon in it.

Hrm. Bacon beer.

1-Canned
2-Frozen
3-Microwavable
4-Beer

Bread is a device that was created to hold as much Peanut
Butter as possible.

Prunepicker,
How many people die from 'Beer" allergies? Actually, I have a friend that was in college and every month he ran short of money towards the end and he lived on peanut butter. Still don't think I would pick peanut butter.

How about honey? The only natural product that doesn't go bad (spoil). I don't know if you can live on it though.

BTW - If you're a beer nut feel free to join me and my other friends in our beer club as we gather at the Mule tomorrow at 6pm for our weekly social. Look for the big bald guy with the epic mustache, and you'll find me.

Homemade ice-cream, fresh bread from the oven, meatballs, mashed potatoes, cheeseburgers, fried okra your grandma makes, deviled eggs, shrimp scampi, medium-rare steak from Red Prime, the cannoli's from Ingrids, the fish tacos from Paradise Cove restaurant in Malibu, Ca, Hideaway's "The Boz" pizza.... I can probably add on to this later.

I couldn't just pick one.
