Never known as a great singer or actress, she was neverless an icon in entertainment since the middle 50's. She showed remarkable courage and determination after being diagnosed with MS many years ago and is still an inspiration to many.

Her heyday (late 50's to mid 1960's) was just a wee bit before my time. But, of course, I knew of her. She was so adorable. Every interview I saw of her she came across as very sweet and kind.

A little bit of our past and Americana has just passed on.

The only reason I knew who she was is because I remember on 'Stand By Me' when they're sitting around the fire and the boys start talking about her name on her sweater, lol!

Back when movies were about fun... Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine, How to Stuff a Wild Bikini, Beach Blanket Bingo, Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color and of course The Micky Mouse Club. RIP

I ran home from school to watch the Mickey Mouse club and Annette. Ahh, the dreams.

She was one of my favorites. Loved her in all the Beach movies. I thought she was beautiful.

Even when I was only about five or six years old, watching the original black-and-white airings of The Mickey Mouse Club, there was something about Annette that made her special. And then those colorful Beach Party Movies as a pre-teen/whatever . . . =)

Not many cultural icons as well loved as Annette Funicello . . . I guess it was sort of an Italian Thing . . . Perhaps a Sophia Loren for the kids. Who knows what Uncle Walt Disney was thinking (in a decent, family-oriented way not however some might have misinterpreted that remark).

Requiem en Pachem, Dolce Corazon.
