Yes, this is still several months away, but the Arts Council is already gearing up for it.

Festival of the Arts | Arts Council OKC (http://www.artscouncilokc.com/festival-of-the-arts)

Yeah, not only an awesome event, but it should also bring some much needed rain to the metro!

Where--or what--is "Dowtown OKC"?

Where--or what--is "Dowtown OKC"?

I think they moved the Festival of the Arts to Stockyards City this year and someone's finger slipped when they tried to type a C.

Where--or what--is "Dowtown OKC"?

holy typographical faux pas batman!

And I never even noticed till you pointed it out (and obviously, neither did the Arts Council)

...oops!

It's not just a weekend event.

Neither is my job when it comes to putting together 1,000 tuxedos for that weekend.

So, there are three "W"s in the correct spelling of Dowtown OKC? =)

I thought that maybe Dow Chemical Co. had purchased all the land on both sides of Harvey and renamed it . . .
If they put in a little chapel for the event would it be Dowtown Abbey?

Sorry about being so left-brained here (and I really do love the Arts Festival--or Festival of the Arts)--but I'm the same guy who spotted the misspelling of "Commuinty Park" (Shopping Center) on a big, brand new lighted sign as it was hoisted into place on its pole.

I wonder how many of these have already been printed . . .
Maybe they are making a subliminal case for NOT cutting state funding to the arts . . .

Really? Are we supposed to get excited over the annual poster? Looks like a clown or a kid made this one.

Maybe . . . But this has an appearance on The Jay Leno Tonight Show written all over it.
I'm just too lazy to look up the mailing address . . .

Hmmm, interesting criticism, btw . . . I have to wonder if we are dealing with Globophobia . . . Coulrophobia . . . or Pedophobia. (well . . . i don't have to . . . =)

I agree. I don't like the poster at all, but I only go for the food, so whatever.

same here OnlyOne, I only go for the food, and maybe peruse the newly renovated gardens, definitely don't collect the clown posters.

I can't stand all the crappy jewelry stands . . . I can barely tolerate the good jewelry stands . . . And all that pottery! oy veh! (but the paintings, photography, sculpture and Curried Indian Taco Turkey Leg Schnitzel Rolls make up for it . . .)

In fact . . . there is a guy who does caricatures on the spot for visitors to the festival . . . he has a "cull bin" for the work people failed to pay for. Some of it is pretty good . . . I pulled this one out and actually bought it! It was labeled "Metro" by the artist:

I'm not sure why someone would be wearing one of those hats in April but . . .

Photo of last year's event (provided by the Arts Council, evidently):

Definitely one of the premiere downtown (<-- note correct spelling, :) ) events of the year.

Mr. (or Mrs. . . . or Miss or Miz . . .) Praedura
Did I forget to say "Thanks!!!!" for the first post? Since the Like button seems to be temporarily suffering from SuperBowl Syndrome, I'll just do it this way. The photo is nearly as great and fun as the event itself.

(of course, i must complainnote--or is that complainote? whatever--that the new tower blocks the view of the sketches of the OKC skyline that i used to do lounging on the grassy knoll--for lack of a better, less sinister, noun--adjacent to the formerly unimproved/redeveloped Myriad Gardens, and near the heavy metal wind sculptures =) <<<---sorta kidding around.

Thanks RadicalModerate. It's Mr. (for those interested).

Yep, every time a tower goes up, some previously unobstructed view gets blocked from some angle. But I'm all for new towers, block views be darned.

right, Mr. Prune? =)

I think the Local Council on Art Related Stuff that allowed that poster to be printed and released should be sentenced to watching the Jimmy Fallon Epic Parody on the subject that is running right now as I keyboard. =)

Like . . . Right Now . . . on TV . . .
Justin Beiber is proving to the world with the help of Jimmy Fallon that Justin Beiber is, like, The Anti-Art . . . Whoa!

Always during the busiest weekend of prom season. Therefore, I will not be going!

I've decided to have an easy Saturday night (now that I'm in a different demographic (35+)) and get up early on Sunday to go down and have some arts festival food and view of artwork before going to work @ 2pm. ;) Can't wait.

The Angels & Friends party last night was a big hit. It was held in the restaurant facility on the east side of the Myriad Gardens, and tent to the north over what was the skating rink during the winter. Good music, food and drinks, and a lot of fun people enjoying themselves on a beautiful evening.

Hope to get down there for lunch today.
