Our October meeting will be a special gathering not to be missed! It will start at 6 p.m. TODAY, instead of our normal time of 6:30 p.m. The Berry Law Firm, at 1923 N Classen, was the original weather station in Oklahoma, and it alone is a fun trip back in time (learn more here: Berry Law Building History | Berry Law Firm | 405 524-1041 (http://www.berrylawok.com/blbHistory.html)). But what will make this visit even more entertaining is a presentation that will be delivered by Howard Berry about the life and times of early day ciity attorney Moman Pruiett. For decades, an incredible biography about Pruiett written by Berry family patriarch Howard K. Berry was among the most sought out rarest local history books. If you think it's difficult to find "And Satan Came Also ..." and a volume of "Vanished Splendor," the Pruiett book was far more difficult to obtain. It took quite a bit of effort for Howard Berry Jr. to bring the book back to life, but his effort, "He Made it Safe to Murder," is among the best written local history books I've read (and it was an influence on the writing style Jack Money and I have used in our books). Pruiett was a scoundrel by most accounts, yet also very successful as a frontier criminal defense attorney. In the 1930s, the late Howard K. Berry was a young lawyer who became acquainted with Pruiett, who was phenomenally successful in his defense of those accused of crimes. In his first 20 years of defending the accused, Pruiett won 303 acquittals in 343 cases. His only client to be sentenced to death was spared by a presidential commutation.
