Its a race between the new 7-11 on 122nd and Oncue. 7-11 has a two week head start, but I have a feeling the Oncue will beat them.

OnCue is yet to submit a building permit application on this site, but 7-11 did that about a month ago at 122nd.

Nothing like a little competition to quickly raise the bar.

I have to agree. I was in one of their flagship stores in Tulsa about a month ago... Holy crap, that place was amazing. Huge, clean, and just about anything you could wish to find in a convenience store.

No sign of any activity yet at the 36th and May site.

OnCue actually thinks extremely highly of QT - so much so that they have borrowed a lot of ideas from them. Some of OnCue's older store layouts, like Store #100 at SW 59th and Western, are highly reminiscent of a QT in many respects. Jim Griffith, the CEO of OnCue, has even been quoted as saying, "One of the biggest compliments I have," Griffith said, "is when someone says, 'Gosh, your stores remind me of a QuikTrip'." Why would they renovate the 7-11 on the SW corner just to build a new one at the NE corner?
That makes no sense..

I think they are building their new bigger concept here at the corner and then will lease or sell their old location. I would bet this 7-11 is one of their busiest ones so why not build a better concept across the street to maximize on profits.

Pete said this was going to be a new 7-11. Oncue is planning to build a new store on Hefner and May. They still haven't started on it nor have they started the new Moore store. 7-11 for that matter hasn't started rebuilding their store either even after removing the foundation.

Maybe the remodeling was already planned and 7-11 fast tracked the building of a new store after they caught wind of Oncues plans for the area?

Looks like they are doing some sort of prep work for the new 7-11 on NW 23rd and Council. Mounds of dirt are appearing next to the old structures. I wonder which will get completed first... The new 7-11 or the new OnCue down the street at The Outlet Shoppes.

Am I the only one who kind of feels like OnCue is the CVS of gas stations? Meaning: wherever there is a 7-11 (Walgreens) an OnCue (CVS) is bound to pop up across the street...

Not always... For instance, the new OnCue under construction on the north side of I-240 and Sooner will compete with two other gas stations on the south side of the highway... but neither are a 7-Eleven. The nearest one of those is a mile south. Likewise, the older store at SW 59th and Western competes with no other fuel retailers at that intersection; the nearest 7-Eleven is half a mile away at SW 66th and Western.

I'm sure, though, that OnCue does something that many other retailers do - they know that a certain retailer has done their demographics homework, and if they locate nearby they're sure to pull in a satisfactory amount of business. Burger King locating near McDonald's is one example that someone in this forum has used (Pete, I believe).

yeah it's been discussed on pretty much every grocery thread here. my uncle who is part of an ownership group of a fairly large grocery chain in Houston admits this is common practice by everyone

Do you have a guess as to when they will start on their Hefner & May location? They've done the demo, I didn't know how long it usually takes before they actually start building. I live close by so I'm anxious for them to start.

I would bet there is some soil remediation done at that site since it was an old filling station, assuming they removed old tanks.

I don't know about On Cue, but it's not uncommon for a convenience store chain to operate branded and unbranded gas operations within the same company.

The Phillips 66 branding showed up at the Broadway in Edmond location this morning.

Not really a fan of it at first impression, just doesn't quite feel right mixed with the existing On Cue store branding.

Well they used a generic gas brand in the past. It happen to be transported by an OnCue labeled truck (Sometimes), but don't confuse it with being OnCue gasoline....they do not own a refinery LOL. Same is true with 7-11 and Circle K...they're just convenience store operators that don't happen to tell you the brand of gas they sell.

I see it as a plus though. We've got an Oklahoma store company pushing a Oklahoma gasoline company. Sounds like a good local deal if you ask me. Plus, the refinery is only 2 hours away, up in Ponca.

They are sure trying to add some density. Don't they have one on SW89th somewhere? I would think this would be close enough to 240 and May. I get the one at 119th and I44 though. Isn't much in the area.

Any plans for north Edmond? There is a convenience store desert north of Danforth.

The I-240 and S May proposed location will be interesting. Somewhat close to the SW 89th and S Penn location, but I personally welcome the density of locations. I'd be a little concerned about how traffic will get to that pad site though, since the access road is only one-way, and traffic from the westbound I-240 off-ramp would have to cut across lanes of traffic to get to it. Seems like a better accessible - albeit less visible from I-240 - choice would be the pad site fronting S May.

Now if we could get one along I-35, somewhere between I-40 and I-240... that would be sweet! I see some spots via Google Maps that might work around SE 15th and I-35, or maybe SE Grand... Here's hoping!

They are aggressively trying to capture market share. Several of their recent and future locations have accessibility issues.

There are two entrances to every OnCue, so you can access on the cross streets. But I am referring to the main thoroughfare when I mention the above restrictions.

Access would be available from May as well as the I-240 frontage road. I'm not sure of the exact site plan but I bet it wraps around Jack in the Box.

Also, there is great access at the 63rd & NW Expressway site from NW 63rd. I realize you can only access from one side of NW Expressway, but I don't think that hinders that location very much. It's probably the best one they have.

That's why they built two on NW Expressway that covers both directions of travel.

Noticed the new OnCue development activity at SW corner of Northwest 10th & Portland.

Just west of that at 738 North Tulsa is a huge liquor warehouse distribution center (Central Liquor Company); probably 3 quarters the size of the Mathis Brothers' new distribution center. Electrical work & façade finish is being applied to that building at this time.

I'm wondering if this is a distribution warehouse for their OKC locations. This location is basically caddy-corner from their location on the SW corner of MacArther and Reno.

I noticed this weekend down in the DFW area that they are getting a Buckee's I didn't realize that they had built a new one south of DFW until I went through there several months ago. Could be interesting if they continue to grow north. Not really an urban c-store so not much threat for On cue but could be for loves.

No way can it be as clean as the Diamond in Flagstaff. They have 2 attendants on full time clean mode.

I don't mind Love's, but only usually use them when on road trips. Thing is, they are usually clean and have plenty of choice as far as beverages, snacks, etc. They are much better than many of the smaller highway gas stations that I tend to avoid unless I don't have other options.

Buckee's is impressive. But it's merely a road side attraction to buy a carved turkey sandwich, a cast iron dutch oven, and an inspirational quote "hand painted" on "reclaimed" wood.

The true road warrior stops at the flying J. Where every 50 gallons of fuel for a commercial vehicle gets a free shower credit. And you can dig into a moons over my hammy at the in house Denny's while waiting for your laundry to dry. Stop by the accessories Dept for a truncheon dubiously called "tire thumpers" and any gadget know to man that can operate on 12volt power. How about a 44oz coffee cup that has an internal heating element to warm itself when placed on its tip and skid free base? YUP! Just watch out for lot lizards!

Loves caters to the trucking industry so all of their improvements have been geared toward selling more diesel fuel or truck tires. They get a lot more bang for their buck with their current business model.

Better comparisons would be Loves, Flying J, Pilot, and TA. Each have their own rewards programs and perks to try to get the trucking companies to stop at their travel stops.

This sounds like the location of the old Steak and Catfish Restaurant.

The Logan County Assessor's online record search page does not show any sales for that parcel yet, so it could simply be under contract or that OnCue very recently closed on the property. That parcel seems a bit small for an OnCue, though... It's approximately 210' x 170'. All of the new-format stores I can think of are on significantly larger parcels, usually around 250' x 350'. It will be interesting to see their plans once they leak out.

According to my spreadsheet, that will make 26 OnCue's in the OKC area, with 18 complete and open and 8 planned or under construction.

Something large has been needed at that corner for a long time! Too bad they can't contract with Braum's to have a cooler full of Braum's milk for those of us who live out there need some milk late at night and don't want to drive forever-and-a-day. :) Nah, but this is going to be fantastic for the area.

When they built the new Loves and Guthrie Travel Stop further up the road 11 miles in Guthrie, at least those 2 businesses were on Highway 33 and can handle the new traffic that gets off to visit those stores. It will be interesting to see what "roadwork" will get done on Waterloo and I-35 because traffic there now can be a pain. Sometimes the traffic that exits on Waterloo has to set out on I-35 before you even reach the exit ramp, pretty dangerous.
