Any recommends for a locally owned southside Mexican restaurant or taqueria? Specifically Capitol Hill, S.W. 29th or S. May. Co-worker suggested they're better than local and national chains but didn't have a specific recommendation. We go to Mexico so much thinking about buying a condo there so like pretty much anything but for whatever reason just never considered southside local places.

I agree with your co-worker 100% :) You should definitely try Taqueria Los Comales sometime. It's just south of Cattlemen's on Agnew. Here's some more info about it:

I also second Kevin's suggestion of Tamales El Patio. Amazing tamales, but take-out only.

Taqueria Los Comales is my favorite. The green chili pork is great

TSP get's my vote. Their tacos and burritos are excellent. The marinated pork torta was really good. I've had mixed feelings and heard mixed reviews on their other dishes. I've been going at least once a week since 2001 for tacos and the ocassional burrito. I highly recommend the fish tacos (the original....not the new fried fish taco).

Tacos San Pedro is two or three blocks west of Penn, on S.W. 44th. Right next to the big bowling alley.

Its not take out only, they have two tables inside. I eat at El Patio regularly. Wish I had some elote right now.

The family really enjoyed Tamales El Patio this evening. We had a mix of pork and chicken. The pork were the best but the chicken were very pleasantly spicy. We will definitely return -- probably next week!
