NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- The NBA says the league's board of governors has voted to approve the sale of the New Orleans Hornets (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/teams/hornets) to New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson.
A one-sentence statement released by the NBA on its Twitter page Wednesday night says the transaction is expected to close this week.

No surprise here, unless there is a glaring flaw or likely to hurt another team's profitability it generally would have been a rubber stamp to anyone. In this case Tom Benson is one of only a few with they money and any reason for them to trust they would not create a media disaster leaving New Orleans.

What would be the equivalent of "Bountygate" for basketball?

I still do not understand why the NBA is so insistent on having a team in NO. Were I Stern, I would have dangled the Hornets before Seattle. "Build that arena and they're yours." Seattle is a far better market than NO, for multiple reasons.
