It would be nice if Liberty Tower eventually became the SECOND tallest building in OKC. Our skyline needs a new identity. For crying out loud, we haven't built a new skyscraper downtown since 1984. I was a freshman in high school back then and now I'm nearly 36 years old. The city really needs to promote developing office space downtown and NOT the suburbs.

I thinkour best bet at getting a new office tower downtown is Devon. Unfortunately, with space available at KerrMcGee tower and Chase Tower, they'll probably opt to either lease or purchase space there before they consider building a new office tower. Building a new office tower would have some benefits for Devon. It would consolidate all of their space into one campus/building, thus giving them a more solid identity.

I designed a concept for a new signature tower for downtown Oklahoma City, but it's too big to fit on my scanner. I may have to take it to Kinkos today to shrink it down.

There was originally to be a "3 Galleria" building in addition to the first two.

I even saw a few renderings of it and it was to be about 50 stories.

However, just like the mall, it never materialized.

There could be one (or many for that matter) built north of the new I-40 (south of the current one).

Exactly my point. We must look into how urban this area of the city will become. Let past rants be gone, the freeway will be moved. There is nothing we can do.

But for one, we really have to begin looking at extending the downtown district itself south a ways. I believe the city was looking into expanding the Myriad Gardens to the south, and form a downtown around this "central park."

Sooner: I think that is a great idea. I think it was smart of the city to put in the Myriad Gardens years ago. Although, I wish they would not have torn down all those wonderful old buildings to do it. Oh well, no sense living in the past!

I'm going to try and design a concept for a multi-use skyscraper for downtown OKC on computer. Right now it's just on paper.

If anyone financially backed you up I am sure it would feasable.

Sooner&RiceGrad, your idea of turning Myriad Gardens into a "central" park if you will, is a great idea. Just expand downtown south to surround the gardens on the north and south sides. Of course, I'd love to see Myriad Gardens expanded, and possibly even a second Crystal Bridge added, as originally planned, to house desert plants, converting the existing Crystal Bridge into a complete rainforest.

Since the title is "'OKC's Tallest Structures" the tallest 'strucure' in OKC is the WKY antenna at 1601'.

And since you mention that, I will add that at the time of it's construction it was the world's tallest antenna.

The CN Tower was built in 1976.

I think I remember hearing that the WKY tower was the tallest structure (of any kind) ever built, at the time.

I think a mixed use concept (hotel, condo, apartment, retail) building would be a great success downtown. Someday I'll build one. Along with a lot of other ideas I have for resorts around Oklahoma.

If I remember right, First National is art deco.....since City Place was built around the same time, I'd imagine it is as well, although I haven't looked at it closely.

I'd say the rest are modern.

I know absolutely nothing about architecture though, and will admit that here. I'll be interested to hear other people's comments.

Some downtown buildings have no architectural style. Most are International, some are Art Deco, a handful of Modern.

What would Italian Renaissance be?

Two architectural styles do not exist in downtown's office towers. Gothic and Italian Renaissance. Art deco, International style and Modern are commonly found in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
