View Full Version : Grrrr...is it a 'storm' system or just a 'weather' system?

I guess I'm confused. I hear meteorologist say, "we have a powerful storm system coming our way but don't expect any rain" or "a powerful winter storm system is coming but don't expect more than an inch of snow". So okay - why don't they call those minor weather changes a 'weather system' and reserve 'storm system' for actual storms. I grow weary how often they throw out the words 'storm' system but there are no storms.

Buck - I hear ya about the hyperventilating TV weather guys.

Even a benign, cloudless area of high pressure and light winds is a "weather system," so there's no point in defining it. And you can't define "severe weather" by the production of precipitation. Ask anyone who lost their house in a windstorm, or was without power for a week during the December 2007 ice storm.

Find your happy place by pressing the little button that says "MUTE."

Number one reason why I come here to OKC talk and see what Venture79 and the others have to say before I turn on my tv. Histrionics aren't helpful, except in the ratings race, or when a REAL storm is genuinely bearing down upon us.
